Whether you plan to look around the town of Buninyong, or go out to the cemetery to investigate ancestors, or drive to the top of Mt Buninyong, the Old Library is a good place to start. It's a combined information bureau and historical repository staffed by locals who are knowledgeable and welcoming. You can sit down on a bench at a large table and talk or look at maps and guidebooks. There are booklets for sale: we bought one describing routes for heritage walks, cycle rides and scenic drives. A few colonial-era items are on display. And the building itself is worth a look: it was built in 1861 (to serve as a reading room/library) and was restored in 1988.
