If you want to see a platypus (or a few!) take the time to go to the platypus viewing platform (Peterson's Creek) and make sure you take the walk along the creek further. Go in the late afternoon, walk slowly and stop for a while and just sit and watch - you'll see more than one for sure! Enjoy! We loved it!

It is a beautiful experience to sit and watch the Platypus and turtle activity in Petersen's Creek. These lovely but elusive creatures are well worth the patient wait for just a split second view.

Visited here with friends specifically to try and see Platypus, unfortunately we didn't see any on this occasion, that's not to detract from the facility, which is excellent. We decided to walk the track alongside Peterson's Creek. Some stunning birds including our first sighting of the beautiful Scarlet Honeyeater. Luckily we did mange to see Platypus at another sight so all was not lost. We were only able to visit this site in the morning, it would seem that evenings are the best at this time of year from around 17:00hrs. Recommended

Even better if you walk further along the creek. A lovely spot to sit and enjoy nature and the environment.

If you are prepared to sit quietly for a little while you are likely to be rewarded with a view of one of Australia's most elusive critters.

I was in Yungaburra for over 2 weeks and although I did see Platypus in the evening at the Viewing Platform, I found them a lot easier to find by walking down the river or hiding out by Frawleys Pool. The best trick is to hide, be still, and be prepared to wait - they are very shy creatures.

Went for a short walk to this area and yes the platypus was there, foraging along the bank. Next time I will take binoculars for a really good look. I spent about 30 minutes watching the activity in the early morning about 6:30. A car park is close by.

At 1st we thought all we'd see was the tree snake swimming by the hide but then a disturbance in the water and a platypus popped up right in front of us. We watched it forage for almost 30 minutes. Patience pays.

Having wandered down to the viewing platform one evening seeing nothing we again ventured down another night around 5 pm after being advised to cross the bridge and take the creek walk. We did this and were excited to see some 5 platapus varying in large to small. This definitely made the walk more enjoyable.

This platform offers a good location to view platypus in their natural environment.Make sure you have plenty of time as they are not constantly active. A clue to their presence is circular rings disturbing the surface of the creek. Try and track their direction with these rings and you may be lucky enough to have them surface in front of the platform.

Make sure you do the walk downstream for 1km - a superbly maintained riverside walk with lots of platypus and bird

... but maybe consider walking alongside the river to get away from the numbers and still catch the platypuses

We went for an early morning walk to see the platypusses and were rewarded with many sightings of f this shy but fascinating Australian mammal. They are absurdly figured and were surely made by God with parts left over but how cute and lovely they are.Do not miss this place. Neon lights, good wine and fine dining are well and good but they are a poor substitute for a good look at these amazing creatures. Best sighting for us was along the creek to the right of the suspension bridge, approaching the creek from the town.

I am a local and have ventured up to Yungaburra on many occasions over the past 10 years. In fact, I love the Yungaburra area and also had a stall at the Yungaburra markets for 3 years. The reason I mention this is ... as an avid visitor to Yungaburra, I was an avid Platypus "watcher". For 9 years of avid watching from the Platypus Viewing Platform I saw absolutely nothing! Nope, not a single platypus. I was convinced the Yungaburra platypus was a myth. Then, amazingly ... upon taking a friend to the Platytpus Platform recently, and saying on approach that the Platypus was clearly only a 'myth' ... there right in front of us was a platypus, swimming along, as happy as Larry!!! Well!!! The Platypus is no myth I can tell you! It does live there in the creek like the locals say!!!

We came here twice and were lucky enough to see a platypus on both occasions - but it is all down to patience, perseverance and luck (as with most wildlife)! On both visits we walked along the track by the creek and saw platypus away from the viewing platform. The walk is easy and very pleasant even if you don't see anything. It was almost dark on the second visit and we had nearly given up but then one appeared and surfaced several times before disappearing. Most people are very quiet but as we left on the first afternoon and whole bus load of tourists arrived and came piling up the track so pick your moments!
