We often visit Apsley Falls for a BBQ lunch, or an afternoon outing for the children. There are great tracks for them to run along, and they particularly like the new suspension bridge which takes you from the first carpark across the river, and around close to the top of the falls (fully fenced) and to a beautiful viewing platform on the opposite side to the main viewing area. This provides a completely different perspective to these beautiful falls.

This amazing place is nature at its most raw and beautiful. Fairly close to Walcha and a stone's throw from the Oxley Highway East of Walcha, Apsley Falls are too incredible for me to attempt to describe. If you are in the area, go there! NP&WS and Walcha Rotary have made it very easy and pleasand to do so. Sturdy lookouts and good walking trails abound. Toilet facilities are adequate and picnic areas are most pleasant. Explanatory signage at various vantage points are very helpful. I doubt that you will have ever seen the likes of the gorge that is so accessible to you.

Apsley is 20km from Walcha and is bitumen all the way to it. Just be careful of the rather large Eastern Grey Kangaroos that live there if you go there near dusk or dawn! There are several great lookouts here (quite a few steps to the lower level if that is of concern) and a decent bridge to go to the other side and a decent walk around to the other side of the valley. There is camping on site although we didn't actually go to the camping area. BY everything here. There are toilets and makes a good break of journey - which is what we always do coming from the Port Macquarie end.

The lookout here is so high it took our breath away. The upper lookout is easily accessible however the lower lookout is via a lot of steep stairs. Falls were flowing for us, so we were lucky.Recommend to all for a break in the travels and view the falls.

An excellent and well maintained attraction. There was only a small fall but nonetheless spectacular! The walking paths are all-weather, and all of the facilities are well maintained! Don't pass it by... especially if the has been some rain lately! Take your binoculars and camera!

The dramatic geology of the gorge systems which run along the eastern side of this southern end of the New England Tableland are spectacular. None more so than the Apsley Gorge which begins with such suddenness where the Apsley River stops meandering along the plain above and plunges twice over vertical falls into deep plunge pools at their base. The first of the falls is obvious from a number of easily accessible lookouts but it is the second or lower falls that take your breath away. To view these, a walk of little more than a kilometre around the northern side of the rim brings you to lookouts more than 120 metres above the second plunge pool. The pool is surrounded by near vertical cliffs which rise along cliffs of shale which are cleved straight by the nature of their original bedding before the volcanic action which tilted them by ninety degrees. The walks are easy, asphalt paved to the end and the view staggering. Both the picnic area and the camping area beyond it are well appointed with gas barbecues and even firewood for the campsites. The toilets are even vitreous china, septic, self-flushing jobs.We spent the weekend but could easily have spent longer.

We visited the falls which unfortunately were all dried up due to the area experiencing a drought. But, it was still very pretty and was worth a visit.

No water flowing at the moment but the walks, and views are absolutely amazing. We walked both sides of the gorge and it was so stunning, and beautiful. The bridge is fun to cross.

What an awesome place to visit! Well worth the side track of 40km. Besides the amazing view of the gorge and falls, the area is also neat and well maintained. A fantastic spot with easy walking ( even wheelchair access for some parts). A truly unexpected gem. And nearby Walcha Caravan Park has great self contained cabins for an overnight stay.

You must go see this. It's as amazing as the blue mountains. A true hidden gem and only 20 minute drive from Walcha

I had no idea this place existed until planning a driving holiday which included travelling along Thunderbolt's Way passing through Walcha. The 40km round trip from Walcha to the falls is well worth it. Both the falls and the gorge are incredible. There is easy access to the site and the viewing platforms.

To top it off, kangaroos for company over breakfast before exploring the fabulous Apsley Falls walk. Level, paved pathway user friendly for all ages and abilities. Scenery of gorge and falls spectacular.Must do for lovers of nature.
