Kianinny Bay is the only ocean access public boat ramp south of Wollongong, but this represents only one small part of its charm. A favoured local swimming area for the experienced, home to Tathra Fishermans Club, a large sealed trailer/car park, start of the Kangarutha track through Bournda National Park, an awesome picnic area with tables, very clean flush toilets and start of the Tathra headland cliff walk. Just to the north-east of the concrete boat ramp is a small swimming area enclosed by rocks that dissipate the ocean swell. At low tide it is a delight and a great alternative to the superb Tathra beach for those who are more keen on swimming than challenging the surf. If the swell is not too powerful at high tide it is amongst the best natural rock pools for swimming in NSW. It is a tiny bit too deep for the novice swimmer but it is as clear as a bell and a little bit warmer than the ocean beaches around the headland to the north. Bring your picnic, your swimmers, avoid the launching boats and you're set for a great day.

This delightful protected bay has a boat ramp, picnic ground and cliff side walking track to the Memorial park on the headland. A lovely alternative for a swim on a windy day or a hour's exploring . Some parts of the walking track are not clearly marked and care should be taken on some slippery rocks, but this is an interesting way to get some exercise, fresh air and certainly enjoy some changing scenery.
