national motor racing museum

The museum has a great selection of racing memorabilia, one of the better collections seen. There are a lot of cars, bikes, pictures and a few movies, all worth while. There are limited recent cars, but I guess they are all sold from team to team and do not get to museum status. The film, which is shown as part of the expensive entry fee, is a tad aged, i think it runs to 2006, like 8 years ago, a lot has happened at Bathurst in the last 8 years, definitely should be up-dated.

This was fantastic, everything for the Motor sport fanatic! There were cars and bikes and great historic stories and videos to watch, so much to see and heaps to learn.

Visited the museum whilst staying at Rydges Bathurst,about 100m walk and well worth the small admission cost of about $12. A lot of car memorabilia ,racing cars,rally cars,motors,motors,bikes,pictures and gifts.Well worth the visit.

Lots of memorabilia, history of the great racers like Johnson and Brock. 20 min movie included in entry price. Well worth the visit for motor racing fans

loved the museum. could not believe how many cars they have there, great that it is right beside the race track, they also accept the Companion Card meaning it is easier for a person with a disability to attend with their carer

For $12 it is a must in Bathurst.The displays are nothing short of pure rev head heaven.To look at these past beauties evokes memories from childhood,past heroes and sometimes sadness of legends no longer.Has a shop a theatre room with history,something for everyone bikes ,speedway ,touring cars etc etc. Well worth the memories.

Nice facility and worth the entry fee if you even have only half an interest in motor racing. Lots of great cars and videos with old footage of Bathurst and a section dedicated to Brockie.Easy to find right next to the race track. There is no café or similar onsite although you can buy a cold drink and there are toilet facilities.

Great cars for a must see! My wife was a bit skeptical about me bringing her with me but even she was impressed with what they had on display. Both being car lovers this was a must see when we were in Bathurst! Will be back again.

The museum came into being as a Bathurst project. It is natural that the car display and associated material has a Bathurst emphasis. There is currently insufficient non-Bathurst material to justify the "National" title, but hopefully this will change over time. For example, the display of maps of motor racing circuits is selective, and does not include many of the older say pre-1960 tracks; the relevant material is readily available.The curating could do with an independent review: there is a lack of continuity in the storyboards at each display, and some literal errors. Moreover, there are some factual errors: there is reference to the outright winner in 1963, whereas in that year the Great Race was still run as 4 separate class competitions. There is a reference to the "inaugural 1938 Australian Grand Prix" at Bathurst. This was the first AGP at Bathurst, but not the inaugural AGP (Phillip Island 1928 is generally accepted as having that honour). I was surprised that those who did so much for Mt Panorama had little or no mention: Alderman Ray Bant was a great advocate; City Engineer Peter Gannon went way beyond what was required of his job. Barry Gurdon does get a guernsey. Jack Hinxman misses out, though.The shop contains a great deal of tat, but among the dross there are some gems: facsimiles of Harry Firth's handwritten notes are for sale, as are other publications not seen elsewhere. Many good titles are available for purchase, but again Bathurst centric.Despite these criticisms, which are readily corrected, the Museum fills a very important role in recording Australia's motor sport history. It is a credit to those who have worked to bring it to this point, and is certainly worth a visit even for those with only a passing interest in motor racing.

This was very interesting the whole family loved looking at the old bikes cars and trophies.The Peter Brooke items were great... All the photographs were fantastic the memorabilia was wonderful.I must say the lady that was working there was really boring no help at all.We are race loving family probably not great if you don't love cars!!

We wanted to show our car enthusiast friend this museum,and he enjoyed it immensely!Not only a great history of car racing and cars at Bathurst,but motorbikes as well!As well as a drive around the Bathurst circuit,don't miss this museum.Only 8.50 per senior,not much more for adults.

This privately run museum deserves your support. Sure, it's all about Australian motor racing, but it's also about Australian history and achievement. The collection of bikes, cars and memorabilia is truly fascinating and includes some of the most iconic vehicles in Australian motor sport.The staff are welcoming and friendly and happy to answer queries or even look up information on their extensive database.If you're at the Mt Panorama track for a visit, make sure you pop into the museum which is very close nearby. it's worth your time and the entry fee to see some great examples of Aussie engineering and achievement.

Totally surprised at he volumne and variety of exhibits, even an old head like me (I am definitely not a petro head) enjoyed the whole museum

four adults attended the museum, people were very friendly and for anyone with a rev head yearning this is the place to see and take in some history. Museum had some great things to do and the movies of the history of the track and races was wonderful. Great for history & race fan buffs.

Not lucky enough to make Bathurst at the date of the great race - take a trip to the museum situated at the entrance to the circuit. Many displays of memorabilia including a neat tribute to the King of the Mountain Peter Brock. The number and variety of Cars - motor bikes - motors make this the No1 Racing museum Australia wide.There are a number of video stations where you can sit down and relax and take in the history of the great race. For $12.50 you have 1 or 2 hours of iconic viewing.Well presented.
