And the big shock here is that Hinterland deviates from the standard winery formula.....Is there an attractive, well-dressed young lady at the tasting counter? No.Has the tasting room been re-done with either old-World style wood beams or crisp, modern lines? No.Do they have Pinot Noir and Chardonnay like everyone else? No.Are the wines neatly displayed around the room along with a collection of cheese boards, wine glasses, corkscrews, jams, and oils for sale? No.None of that. The place seems like, and probably is just an extension of a barn. They produce nothing but sparkling wines and made only 3 selections this year. If you buy any, they may be behind the counter or stacked in a large metal crate-type contraption. The cheaper two were $22 and $25. The more expensive old-world style bubbly was in the order of $39. I found them all to be enjoyable.Come here for a completely different experience and for sparkling wines. There are plenty of other places that have granite counters, gift shops, attractive servers, and Pinot Noir. Hinterland is just doing its thing, and it is something special.

I heard of this winery exclusively from word-of-mouth. We visited Hinterland on a summer afternoon in PEC and were very pleased with the entire experience. The variety of wines were delicious and complex. I preferred their 'traditional' wines, but found everything a fine quality. Our host provided engaging conversation about the wines, their process, and their up-coming projects. Definitely a lot to look forward to in the future from them (a brewery, chef, etc.)! I'll certainly be back to experience them and enjoy everything they have to offer.

We arrived here late one afternoon and they were actually closed but since they were outside enjoying a glass of wine, they welcomed us and opened the doors! What excellent sparkling wine. I have been coming to Prince Edward Country for more than 10 years and I don't know how I hadn't heard of Hinterland before this trip. We made up for it by buying a couple of each and we're looking forward to savoring them this fall & winter. I especially enjoyed how knowledgeable everyone was in explaining the different products. I will definitely return on my next trip!

A lovely sunny August afternoon, tasting excellent charmat (prosecco style) and traditional method bubbly. Bringing home some Hinterland rose traditional method sparkling. Vicki and Jonas lovely people and welcoming hosts... Lovely spot. Must see on a county tour.

Hinterland is new...but you'd never know it. The owners/staff are clearly having fun doing what they're doing...and what they're doing is great! They offer a selection of proseco style wines... and are happy to serve them along side things like fresh oysters (yes you can have lemon, but try it with their very own proseco based vinegar!!) and pulled pork (apparently they'll have a second smoker for next season).Closson Rd, off Danforth (Consecon Rd north out of Wellington)

We have been coming here for 5 years and every single year we come back. Vicky and Jonas are amazingly warm hosts and we come there for their company as much as their fantastic sparkling wine. It's a must for any visitor to the county and sipping their wine at home only reminds us to come back next year!

Ok I confess I drink quite a bit of sparkling wine and champagne, but this is one of the best sparkling wines I've ever tasted. The traditional white cap is probably my favourite, but I enjoy everything that they offer. I make the short trek from Toronto on a fairly regular basis to stock up, but you can get it delivered too. I enjoy visiting because you can chat with the friendly staff/owners, sample new blends and ask questions. Highly recommend it, Canada's best sparkling by far.

Food and wine was delicious, loved the "mystique" of the place. White Cap is a personal favorite and I would recommend this winery to anyone touring the area.

Me and my friends are generally not fans of sparkling but decided we would give this winery the benefit of the doubt when we arrived. Compared to the other local wineries and other vineyards, it is poor. The cellar smells old horse but maybe that's part of the "mystique". None of our group of 4 liked the sparkling wines offered. Maybe if we were just legal party girls, the bellinis offered may have been enticing but not at this point. Bottom line was this place got a brief 5 minute visit from us and we were on our way.

Definitely one of the best sparkling wines in the country. Fresh wines with nice tight bubbles. They only do bubbles ;) my favourite was the rosé champagne method. They didn't have any of the white premium bubbles. Next time. The winery has a relaxed feeling. Cool design for the winery logo. They also have oysters on site. Very recommended.

I always heard about Hinterland from my brother and he always brought a few bottles for me to try. I went to Prince Edward County, I knew I had to go to Hinterland. There sparkling has great flavour & they use interesting grape varietals to have a great selection of wines. My favourite was the Ancestral. A must visit.

My partner and I are huge fans of this place! It is in the middle on nowhere in he county, like everything else in the county, and what a pleasant surprise! We are on our 6th case of bubbly since finding this wonder! Jonas, the owner is awesome and his product is so fantastic! I can't say enough about it!

Hinterland only makes bubbly - and they do it very well. The winemakers philosophy is that sparkling wine is the best product that can be derived from the grapes that are grown in PEC. While I disagree - other wineries make good wines from the county's grapes - Hinterland does produce some excellent bubbly that is well worth the detour. I always pick up a few bottles - it is one of a few staple wineries that I will stop in to buy things without sampling. Highly recommend it.

I came here on a summer weekend of exploring wineries and food in Prince Edward County. When we arrived at Hinterland, we were the only customers so we had a really nice time chatting with the owner. He was candid and funny, clearly passionate about wine, and gave us a quick walk around of the facilities. They have 3 sparkling wines on offer, ranging in price from $22-40 per bottle. Very reasonable, considering it's made by the same process of making champagne. They supply to some Toronto restaurants like Momofuku and 416 Snack Bar. I loved "Les Etoiles". Behind the main building, there's a farm with chickens. They also have 2 adorable cats on the premises:)
