The Art Show will be in July this summer (2015) - two days to view the art of numerous local and out of town artists - well worth the visit

Well-run museum buildings accurately display the lives of rural settlers in central Ontario. Great staff, fun for kids and adults.

Settlers' or pioneer villages are fairly typical across Canada to show the living and working conditions of the hardy people who opened up the land to agriculture and build the communities we see today. Sometimes there is a sense that if you have visited one you have visited them all. However, what I really enjoyed about Kawartha Settlers' Village, was the personal story it told of the families of the Bobcaygeon area who built, lived and worked in these buildings and whose descendants live in Bobcaygeon today. We met some of those descendants and chatted with them. It is wonderful to see the continuity with the history of the area. The day we visited there were clog dancers rehearsing, storytelling for a children's camp and volunteers happy to explain or research connections to the founding families. I recommend you visit the settlers' village and then go on to the Boyd Heritage museum to learn more of the story.

We always try to visit early settlers' villages whenever we can - this one did not disappoint. Although rather small, we enjoyed the authentic displays and talking with the knowledgeable staff. We will probably visit again.

I am a big fan of the Settlers' Village in Bobcaygeon, Ontario. It offers a wide array of buildings that represent the 19th century settler experience as it pertains to the Bobcaygeon area: an actual setters' cabin, in this case that of the Junkin family, one of the oldest families in the area; an orange lodge (the Orange Lodge of Bobcaygeon surely must be one of the last of such lodges to hold a march on July 12th!); a general store, blacksmith shop and so on. While the train station vanished a few decades ago, the Village has recreated a miniature, a "maquette," of the station and its grounds, with moving trains, turntable, cattle pens and so on. The staff is friendly, and once a year there's a Settlers' Day at the Village. It's well worth a visit. For further information, see http://settlersvillage.org/

A quaint collection of historical buildings that befit a leisurely outdoor stroll. We killed some time here before attending the nearby Globus Theatre and were pleasantly surprised at what was on offer. It is tucked away a bit, close to the water tower, but well worth a visit in good weather.

It is nice to see historic villages, but this one still has to improve a little to make it worth my while to revisit. But Bobcaygeon is expanding and the centre is improving, so a few years from now we may revisit again and hopefully add another star.Shops do not qualify as an attraction, but having said that, I still feel that the huge shoe store in the centre is by far the #1 attraction in town.People come from far to get new shoes and Bobcaygeon is an attractive town to spend a nice day relaxing and enjoying the recreational traffic on the water.

Settlers Village is a small historic village set in a beautiful, small village on the Trent Severn Waterway.Run primarily by a team of hard working volunteers, it is an escape from our current busy lives and gives us a taste of Ontario's past. Buildings have been moved to this site from the neighbouring countryside and have meaning for many local families. It is open mainly in the summer months for tourists and also offers summer camps for local children. Throughout the off season they offer special activities such as outdoor travelling theatre, art shows, quilt shows and other special events as well as special events for families such as the very popular Hallowe'en and Festival of Trees Christmas events. This is a perfect, rural, small town venue but if you are expecting Canada's Wonderland, this isn't it.
