My girlfriend and I did this tour and had a GREAT time! While we are both very active and athletic(ages 53 and 47) I would not say this was a difficult hike. If you are not athletic at all, it is worth the effort, and be sure to wear shoes suitable for hiking in the jungle, it can be wet as well. The river tubing is in calm water, but you will get wet. We were nervous booking online, but Julisa was the only representative from all the companies we called for excursions throughout our vacation who spoke excellent English and was a great communicator. Both via email and on the phone, she responded quickly to all my questions. We found most of the people on our trip to be from PR, and whether it was a group of teens or families, everyone was kind and helpful, even offering us tastes of their Puerto Rican food that differed from our menu choice during the luncheon. We had a large group, as others have mentioned with complaints. I don't particularly care for large groups, but it never was a problem and I expected this from a "group" excursion. Everyone was kind and respectful. Ask to pay extra for a private guide if you are looking for that. I don't recall our guide's name, but he was a wealth of information on the flora and fauna and caves. Some people did not tip him, which I found to be rude.I would definitely recommend this tour if you want a little hike in the jungle and a float through the caves. We spent a bit more time at the historical site than I would have liked, but, this was a nice way to spend a day on vacation and see a little more of Puerto Rico.

We were victims of fraud by this company. We purchased groupons to go on a tour with this company however, they began a long and tedious process of cancellations and in the end never gave us our tour that we PAID FOR!!!! They are not responsible people. They do not answer the phone or emails. There is no communication. This company is not recommended!!!!!

One of the best eco-adventures that we have had. The communication prior to the adventure was very helpful in regards to instructions on how to get to the meeting site, what to wear and what to expect. Very knowledgeable and friendly guides that help you throughout the tour. Beautiful scenery, waterfalls and caves. The body rafting was such fun!! The water was COLD, but we had been told to expect it. We ended at a coffee plantation where after being shown how coffee is cultivated and processed we were able to taste the most delicious coffee ever. Exquisite! We plan to return and repeat the adventure again, but at a time where the water is not so cold.

We were victims of fraud by this company. They claimed the money in advance then began a long and tedious process of cancellations and in the end let us planted in Utuado. They are not responsible people. They do not answer the phone. There is no communication. It is not recommended.

As most of the people in this forum I do not recommend this company. They are totally unaccesible, unproffesional, and fraudulent. The place is worth visiting, just not with them.

A group of friends bought passes for this excursion, but after that, nobody in the company answer our emails nor telephone calls. They never confirmed us a date for the excursion. So, we can't did the excursion. Fortunately, the company that served as intermediate gave us a credit. Anyway, it was a very bad experience. I can recomend you other excursions companies in the area, such as Tierra del Encanto and Explora. This companies are very responsibles and its tours are awsome!!!

Our experience was excellent...! Atabey Eco Adventures' staff was so professional. Safety is their first priority throughout the tour. They give us enough information about the area and history of the caves. We made Cave Tubing Tour on February 25, 2012 and we also did the other tour "Cueva del Arco" on June 23, 2012. We are very pleased. You have to bring to the tour tennis shoes, sunblock, water, two snacks and light sport clothesPeople verify first before reading negative feedback.

We reserved a trip a month in advance and received a few emails before we arrived in Puerto Rico. Three nights before our excursion, however, we received a long text message in Spanish. Since we're from NC and do not know much Spanish (the emails we received earlier were in Spanish and English, btw so why the sudden lack of English; I wouldn't have expected it unless we knew that English was spoken) we were only able to pick out some key words/phrases and didn't think much of it. We drove 2 hours (leaving at 6 from San Juan) to arrive at a hard to find Taino Indian Museum/Park. We were 10 minutes early, so we waited. At 8, we started calling attributing the unanswered calls to Caribbean time (running a few minutes late). After we called three times (8:20 by now) we received the same text in Spanish. We asked some other local Puerto Rican residents to interpret the text message and it was a cancellation text. Not only could she not answer the phone with a simple explanation, she knowingly sent us something we wouldn't understand. I wouldn't recommend doing anything with this company; pick a more reliable one if you really want to enjoy Puerto Rico without having to scramble to fill in lost time.

Awesome trip, hiking and then cave tubbing. Learn about the importance of karst and animals in the caves. Beautiful scenery, very special people. It's worth every penny.

Atabey Eco Adventures took us to a new level of enjoyment..at first you will be hiking your way up to the mountain, and then down for the cave tubing which make this trip diferent from the other Eco Tour on the Island. And relax is easy the guides will not leave you alone. You'll get wet.. very wet, but we enjoy every minute of this trip. The tour guides are excelent and make you feel so warm and welcome. You must bring snacks for lunch, but an after meal is included, well on our package, but is excellent..Atabey, tks for teaching us how wonderful and beautiful is our Island..Att los Murcielagos team..

Last week my family and some dear friends were able to experience the most wonderful adventure "tierra adentro" with the lovely people from ATABEY Eco Tours @ Utuado, PR. Early AM, our guide Eduardo along with his assistants Osvaldo and Danny, were ready to take us through an amazing journey deep inside the Tanama Forest. We met at Caguana Ceremonial Park where we were given instructions that will help make this experience unforgettable, always keeping in mind the importance of preserving and protecting our natural resources and emphasizing safety at all times. We went by car to a nearby private property where we got ready to start hiking through the forest. They were very clear that the hiking was going to be intense (it was!!) and that we should be prepared with plenty of snacks and water. So off we went on our long walk, ups and downs through the forest, there were some slips on the muddy terrain but no biggie, it made it all the more fun. I want to let you know our group had people from all ages, 13 to maybe late 50s, so even though the walk was intense it is doable by anyone. Our first stop was @ Mirador Moisés, spectacular view where Eduardo instructed us on the importance of the karst zone. We kept exploring until we reached a grotto were our ancestors left their marks on its wall, lots of petroglyphs. We learned some more about our unique heritage, bats and ecosystems. Eduardo talked passionately about our ancestors, history and this beautiful place we call PATRIA, Puerto Rico. We couldn't help but feel more proud of being "puertorriqueños." At last we reached our final and most awaited stop, Río Tanama. We were in PARADISE!! Before entering the cave in our floats Eduardo asked who wanted to take a plunge in the freezing water, WE did!! It was C-C-C-O-L-D and FUN!!! Don't give it much thought, when you're there... jump in!! Finally we were helped getting settled on our floats and we went inside the cave, where the slow flow of the river allowed us to enjoy total relaxation for about 20-30 minutes. Take a camera, you'll cherish those pictures. I took mine and nothing happened to it, inside double ziplock bags and my backpack (which I carried on my chest while cave tubing). Our expedition was coming to an end but not before another intense hike. After completing this part of the tour we returned to Caguana where we changed out of our wet clothes and then had a guided tour of its museum and Indian Ceremonial Park. It was mid-afternoon and we were starving (this is why you need plenty of snacks), our package included lunch and we were taken to a cafeteria where we enjoyed a great lunch. Zoe, from ATABEY, was there with the other group and we had the pleasure of listening to her talking about the importance of loving and preserving the wonders God gave us. Afterwards they recommended we make a final stop at a small coffee plantation just minutes away, Café El Gran Batey. We were tired but who could resist a hot cup of coffee harvested in our mountains? We couldn't and we were so glad we took the decision to make that last stop, it made our day even more complete. Daniel, the son of the owner, gave us a tour and explained to us the process of coffee making. He loves what he does and you can feel it in the way he talks about it. We tasted gourmet coffee while listening to the stories his father and mother shared with us. It was like a visit to Abuela's house, we fell in love with them. It was 7PM and we finally took the decision of leaving, we had a long drive ahead of us. On our drive home we were talking about what a wonderful day we had just experienced and were planning when to come back.

It was a great experience; more than relaxing yourself by moving away of the city smoke, you will have a better understanding of how important is Nature by being in direct contact with it while the tour guide explains to you the history and information of all you see. If you are from Puerto Rico you will have more reasons for loving so much more this beautiful Island, and if you are visiting Puerto Rico you will definitely fall in love with this Island and its Natural Resources as well as with its people. It is impossible to describe in words what I felt, but I can tell you that being at the top of the hill (1,600 ft above sea level) seeing the majesty of mountains and valleys while the wind caresses your face is priceless… and it was just the beginning of the Eco-Adventure. Go ahead and give yourself the chance of feeling the power of Nature.

I've lived in Puerto Rico all my life, and I never thought that you can see so much beauty and have a ton of fun all at once. I definitively recommend their guided tours to anyone who's willing to have fun with friends and/or family. You will learn about Puerto Rico' natures while you see it and feel it :-D
