We were sailing on the Island Windjammers Diamant and stopped at Mayreau. It was the first stop on the famous cultural pub crawl and just so happened to be the last stop on our tour. Once passengers of the ship got in the pool it was decided the night had to come to an end. We had some drinks which were of course yummy and we did some dancing which by the way dennis is one hell of a dancer! And after a couple hours it was time to head back to the ship. My wife says the ladies bathroom was nice which matters to women of course. We did take a walk through the grounds and the place was very nice. But we spend most of our time at the bar listening to loud music and drinking beers and becoming more and more cultural. Thank You Dennis for a fun evening and which hopefully we will make it back to your beautiful island of Mayreau.

Although Mayreau is a nice place for a day visit, we don't have good memories of Dennis Hideaway., including Dennis himself.First of all, Dennis Hideasway is located uphill in a village surrounded by residential houses and a long (!) walk from the beach. Compared to all other places we stayed at in the Carribean, this was the worst hotel setting.Even though we slept in the best room (captain's suite), the room was awful. The bed is one of the worst we ever slept on in our lives. It is a typical small carribean bed which hardly fits 2 adults and is so stiff that it really feels like sleeping on a concrete floor. If you press your fingers in the mattrass it just doesn't deform! Next to that, there is a plastic cover all over the mattrass which of course doenn't breathe. As a result you are sweating terribly in your bed. The bed will make you sweat more then the tropical temperatures! The curtains are so thin and light that you will wake up when the first sun beam enters the room, which of course is very early. And if that's not enough, with every step you make in the room you are surrounded by at least 10 mosquitos who are attacking you. And we were here in low seaon. In high season there are much more mosquitos. We also have very bad experiences with Dennis. He starts drinking already early in the morning and continues to do so until late night, sitting at the outside bar with the music loud.He is very rude to his staff as well as his guests. When our children were playing in the pool, he told them to stop because the stones at the side of pool were becoming wet.... In the morning (at about 9.45 a.m.) we were waiting for Dennis to tell us that the breakfast was ready. When we finally had breakfast (about 10.15 a.m.), we asked if we would get eggs as well, the waitress - after talking with Dennis - said that we were too late for breakfast. I walked to Dennis, who was already having a few glasses of alhocol at the bar at that time and having an extensive breakfast himself (!), and asked what this meant. He said that we should have read the sign on the room that breakfast was until 10.00 a.m. We told him that we were waiting for him to start breadfast and that there was no sign in the room (which really was not there, the waitress double checked and confirmed this). How rude can you be to your guests! When we were checking out we made a question about the bill as the charged dinner prices were much higher as agreed with him (he said he would prepare a dinner for the 4 of us for $ 60 which turned out to be a crazy $ 100 on the bill), he started to scream at us and started to give us the most ridulous reproach, like that we had not thanked him for replacing the malfunctioning fridge on our room, that we were too late for breakfast, that he never got complaints and that he only wanted love. He even threatened to call the police. Every time I tried to say something, he continued screaming and he didn't give me the chance to say anything. We have never experienced this before in our whole lives. To prevent an unpleasant situation we paid the bill and left the resort with a very unpleasant feeling. It seems that Dennis has lost his joy in his resort, which he already runs alone for a long time and is now trying to sell.

There are a few problems with Dennis' Hideaway, not least Dennis himself. He was welcoming enough when we arrived but when we refused to go on a boat trip to Tobago Cays with him (because he was asking an outrageous $US240 for the 15 minute trip) he got grumpy with us and more or less refused to speak to us for the rest of our stay. Prices of meals mysteriously increased. Because of the bad atmosphere we cut short our stay and left early. Dennis refused to even give us and our heavy bags a lift the short distance to the jetty. Having said all this I would encourage people to visit the beautiful island of Mayreau, which was otherwise a wonderful place to stay.

I recently visited the beautiful island of Mayreau and stayed at Dennis'. We were disappointed to find that Dennis was away. We were welcomed by Justin and a great staff. The room was nicer than we had expected. Clean and comfortable right down to the monogrammed beach towels! While Mayreau does not boast any shopping (except t shirts) there are 5 restaurants within walking distance. The beaches are magnificent. Plenty of water taxis are available for trips to the cays and a short hop over to Union Island! Just ask your hosts at Dennis'. The Hospitality here cannot be beat! Don't miss the fresh fish at Dennis' restaurant! Be sure to bring along some small trinkets or books, crayons, etc. for the Island children..

It was in 1993 that we sailed from teh Netherlands to the West Indies. The best memories we have from Mayreau by Dennis. In 2005 we come again with our boat Nirvana.
