If you are looking for an authentic rural Nicaraguan experience with a few creature comforts, I highly recommend staying a few nights at Ecoalbergue La Fundadora. It's located in the mountainous coffee country of North Central Nicaragua about 45 minutes from Jinotega and a bit closer to Matagalpa. There's hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The Cabañas are clean, comfortable with hot water! The Ecoalbergue is run by a local cooperative and your stay benefits the community. Great campesino cuisine, really friendly hosts. If you want to explore the Datanli-El Diablo Nature Reserve this is an ideal base.

I and some colleagues spent 4 days in La Fundadora community looking for some hikes and camping, and I got to find this lovely lodge nearby, we decided to stay here, I had a great time, the rooms are super clean, comfortable bed, and the area itself is simply beautiful. The hike to Los Numeros Trail was fantastic and after that the Manager came with us and took us for a refreshing swim at La Bujona Waterfall! We were pretty sad that we had to leave because there's so much to do around here: Hikes, camping, horseback riding, mountain biking etc. I will definetly come back to this Eco albergue!

Organizamos un curso para 25 guias turisticos de Matagalpa y Jinotega en la Comunidad la Fundadora en el 2013. En el Albergue La Fundadora nos brindaron muy buena atención con servicios de comidas, refrigerios, alojamiento y el espacio fisico. El auditorio nos ha sido muy comodo y ademas el area de varios hectareas que forma parte del albergue nos sirvio super bien para desarrollar las practicas de cada grupo de guias.Como oferta de actividades opcionales el albergue de la Fundora ofrece tours de café, senderismo, cabalgatas y ciclismo de montaña.
