We took a boat road on Lake Naivasha, which was surprisingly enjoyable--tons of gorgeous birds, hippos, etc. We pulled up alongside Crescent Island Game Park, and I wish I'd had the opportunity to actually walk on the island. I had an eery feeling of encountering Eden--there were two figures walking in the distance through the landscape, occasionally spooking zebras and other animals which cleared a path. But I've never in my life in the U.S. been able to walk through a landscape with so many large animals so close--and if I went back, in a moment's notice I'd actually pay the $30 or so to step onto the island and walk through the landscape alongside the animals. It was simply beautiful.

Nothing beats walking with the wildlife along this beautiful peninsula. The knowledgeable guides showed us around, telling us what all the animals, birds and trees were. It was an incredible experience!

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable moment as we got to the Island via boat from Lake Naivasha Resort Hotel. We got to see giraffes amongst other wild animals grazing on the island and also witnessed an ancient house that has been there for decades which still has the family living in it.

A Small Island in the middle of Lake Naivasha. This is also a place where the movie 'Out Of Africa' was shot. Has a lot of wildlife, can be accessed by boat from the mainland, then a special guide will guide you on foot. A very interesting experience.

All 10 of us took a boat ride over from Lake Naivasha Lodge and went on a guided hike on the peninsula. We got so close to the giraffes/zebras and saw herds of wildebeest and Cape buffalo as well as other animals. On our way back, our boat driver got us close to the hippos sunning themselves. Only thing we found 'missing' was a restroom facility.

Walking freely among the animals was one of the greatest experiences of my life, standing up close to giraffes. Hardly saw anyone else during the 3 hours on the island and loved it.Many skeletons and rotting carcasses of the ground though.

Cool place / you can roam with the waterbuck, giraffe, antelope (just examples) with no fences. We took a nice long walk - there is a fence but it is to keep the hippos out. The place belongs to the animals - they keep a safe distance from humans. But it's interesting to experience my first walk with no fences. Not the least bit threatening - just a different feeling.

After a boat trip on Lake Naivasha, you get off on this island preserve and walk with a guide among the animals there. Includes zebra, impala, waterbuck, giraffe and more.

Having not read any reviews, we weren't sure what crescent island was going to be like, but we loved it. We almost got a boat from Camp Carnellys which only gives 60-90 minutes on the island but instead we got a matatu that dropped us as the entrance and we walked into the reserve from there, getting up close to zebra and giraffe before we even entered the park!We ended up spending about 4 hours walking around, though that includes sitting on a log in the shade of a tree to eat our packed lunch, and spending 45 minutes communing with the giraffes. We didn't bother with a guide - you can't get lost and the animals are all recognisable. Make sure you ask someone where the buffalo are though so that you can steer clear. Instead we walked along the top of the ridge towards the far end of the peninsula, and then looped back along the lower edge on our way back.As other people have said, it's hot and there isn't much shade (though there's a welcome breeze most of the time). Take sun tan cream and plenty of cold water. We loved our time on the island watching the impala and gazelles gallop away from us, the wildebeest stare at us, and the giraffes nonchalantly munch leaves while we got within 10 meters of them. We were hot, tired and dusty by the end but very happy. If you live in Kenya make sure you get resident rates - 800 KSH instead of $30 USD each. They didn't ask for proof that we were residents, but given that we walked from the matatu they probably guessed.Well worth a day out to enjoy guaranteed up close views of some classic safari animals!

Nice visit but our guide spent most of the time on his cell phone. Maybe work reacted not sure? Nice to walk among the animals after being in a vehicle for so many days

It is a short boat ride from most of the Lake Naivasha hotels to Crescent Island. From there, you can walk around the tip of the island, which is packed with wildlife at every turn; zebras, gazelles, giraffes, pelicans, wildebeests and hippos, all at very close range! We were unaware that most of the animals were brought to the island during the filming of, "Out of Africa", and then left behind to fend for themselves. It is worthwhile to engage one of the rangers as a guide.

not much shade on this penisula called island. There are some animals here and there - but most of the time you just try to walk from shadow to next shadow 200 meters away,But the boatride is nice

The entrance fee is too expensive. 30 US$ for a 2 hour walk! It's more interesting to go to a real park. Also the owner of the place (old white lady) seems to be stuck in the 1960's. Her house is nice but all the employees are dressed like back in the days and they seem to fear her. That made me uncomfortable.Sanctuary Farm next door is much more welcoming and pleasant.

Crescent Island is a short boat ride from the shore of Lake Navaisha. You must remember to bring $30 pp in entry fees. You can then walk about yourself or take a Game Park guide (recommended, no extra fee, but a tip is encouraged). You will encounter small but impressive herds of zebras, gazelles, impalas, giraffes and wildebeests; plus flocks of Pelicans, flamingos, herons and cranes. If you go on a weekday, it may feel like you have the island all to yourself. If you have not been on an African Safari, you will be amazed at the proliferation and proximity of the wildlife. If you have, then you will probably not be impressed. Lastly, you might want to know that all of the mammals were imported in the 1980s from Maasai Mara for the movie, "Out of Africa", which was filmed on Crescent Island. For me, this reduces the experience a little, as it makes it feel a bit zoo-like to me.
