Relaxing way to munch exotic sea food that would otherwise be very pricey in a hotel. On sale is also ginger spiced cane juice that brings your taste buds to town :)

The food at this market really isnt that great. Most of the sellers seem to tell you its different types of fish when really it all seems to be the same. Maybe I just picked the wrong couple of vendors, but felt like everyone was desperately trying to get you to eat their mediocre food. Plus it really didn't seem that cheap. I would say only come here if you like people watching and don't mind eating average food in order to fill yourself up.

You need to not be afraid to try things to truly enjoy this fresh approach to cooking to order. Seafood galore cooked right along the banks they were caught.

nice little place to soak up the atmosphere and taste some of the good food on offer! Very cheap too!

In the daytime, Forodhani Park is pretty average. There's some nice little cafes on the seaside that are nice to have a coffee at, but other than that, it's not too special. However, every night there is a market mostly consisting of local foods. There are lots of people and a good atmosphere...worth checking out.

Great for a tour of about 2 hours. See the unique monkeys and enjoy the walk through the mangrove forrest. Had a great tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable.

The area is lifeless during the day, but comes alive at night, with the nightly food stalls. There is an array of fresh seafood and a lovely vibe. Right on the ocean front, so choose well and sit and enjoy a wonderful cheap meal on the grass. Such a lovely atmosphere, with locals and tourists all mingling together.

everyone has to be here at night. For the food; pizza, mshikakis, sugarcane juice and then watch people. :D

There are a couple of little seaside stand in the park. One serves ice cream - really good ice cream for about 75 cents a scoop. They also sell a ginger pop. It has avery strong ginger flavor and we found it very refreshing. We picked a seat with a good view of the ocean while we relaxed and took a break from the heat of the day. Even during the day the people watching is pretty good too.

At night, vendors grill a delightful variety of seafood, local boys run and jump off the pier into the water, and visitors stroll about. During the day, pretty much the same happens without the fresh seafood grills. There is a small playground for children, which you can access for 1000 Shillings (45 cents USD). The fee helps maintain the playground. You can find the maintenance crew in various stages of napping, lounging, or in coquettish conversation. The sweeper, for instance, had expended such considerable energy by sweeping up a pile of papers and leaves that he had little recourse but to lay down and nap. A young caretaker huddled in the center of a dark playground recess and slipped into slumber. I wouldn't have known she was there, except when my granddaughter climbed a ride near her, the caretaker sat up (no doubt to determine if we'd paid the 1000 shillings). Two other ladies were engaged in conversations with young men. The money taker disappeared and appeared upon desire. An enjoyable hour.

We enjoyed the street food here - very friendly people and the food was good (no one got sick either!) A very busy area in the evening and as others have mentioned, the harbour area is a very lively place to come to - lots of boys diving into the water, vendors hoping to entice one to eat their food, etc.

I just read a review that complained about food hygiene and Forodhani as a tourist trap. Forodani is extremely important for the people who sells excellent food here. It is difficult to get a stall here, you have to be certified and skilled in cooking and hygiene. Of course they have to sell to tourists, but they are still able to make good food that is avilable for the big crowd of locals who visits Forodani every night. Forodani is nice during the day, you can have a good coffee and a good lunch in one of the cafes at the seafront, but in the evening it completely changes and you can get the best african streetfood you´ll ever experience. Touristtrap? No! Catering for tourists? Yes! You should not leave Stonetone before you have had a meal in Forodhani.

This is a place set up for tourists where food hygiene is not on the agenda. Check out Africa House Hotel or 6 degrees south for a nice place with a view to take in sunset with a cocktail and some local tapas.

We wandered about there numerous evenings. We didn t sample the local barbecue foods which are abundant in the evenings. Best of all was people watching and the family type atmosphere. Teenagers making eyes at each other, on cell phones and flirting like they do everywhere.
