look, i'm biased with my 5 stars but i make no apology. this is the beach of many happy memories, and there is a good reason why. when i was a kid i never understood why people thought Nantucket was such a fancy place to go. all i knew was that my uncle & aunt had a place there forever and that was where all the Chans went over the summer if you didn't want to wait until Christmas to see your peeps. we'd go clamming and crabbing and feed the ducks...and of course go to the beach. and this is the one, because it's walking distance from the house.i get it now as a quasi-adult why people get all woo-woo when i say i'm going to Nantucket, but Madaket is so far away from Nantucket Town and/or 'Sconset -- both literally and figuratively -- that i'm happy that's where my peeps ended up all those years ago. sure, it's a drive (or solid bike ride) from Town, but it's well worth it. parking, even during peak times in summer, isn't awful, and because the public beach is right next to a "private" beach (where the residents go), everyone spreads out and it never feels crazy crowded. the water always feels so good, and curious seals will come check you out. sometimes the waves can get a little wild, but even on many windy days, the water will be relatively calm.the best part of course is the SUNSETS...even this longtime Los Angeles-dweller, who has seen many a splendid beach sunset, has been totally and utterly WOWed by the sunsets at Madaket Beach. watching a fiery orb slowly descend below the watery horizon, turning the sky all colors and bathing the sand in a golden glow, is an experience you need to have if you've made it all the way out to Nantucket, let alone all the way out to Madaket. i will say it again: DO NOT MISS THE SUNSET HERE. (disclaimer: weather permitting!) Millie's is right down the street so you can easily grab some grub and make it a sunset dinner picnic if you want to, if you are not lucky enough to have Chinese aunties who have already prepared some kind of seafood feast for you wrapped in aluminum foil. see, many happy memories. just go.

The ocean was powerful! It was so windy and the surf so rough that we could only enjoy being there for a short while - only ones there!

Came in the off-season (late October) - we rented bikes at Young's and took the 6 mile ride to see the sunset here. It was amazing - and not crowded at all (we saw maybe 5-6 people). I'm sure in the summer this place really picks up! Incredible views... and plenty of seals playing to keep you company.

Madaket is a lovely area and the beach, while crowded in the summer, is a no mans land in the off season and that's the time to go. Stroll for hours without seeing a soul. Heaven!

Go see this beach. It's austere and beautiful. The weather wasn't the best this time, but were entertained by seals watching us walk the beach. It's fabulous when the weather's good. It's basic, hardly any parking, get a bike and ride out, one port-a-john.

A great beach and the best place to watch the sunset on Nantucket. Big wide beach and easy access. A lovely and peaceful place off season

Beautiful long beach to walk along (too surfy for swimming). Picturesque (and there's a great restaurant at the end of the bike trail.)

About a 6 mile bike ride from town. Rolling gentle bike path most of the way. With the ride on the right night.

Our group rented jeeps and stopped at Bartletts Farm for some picnic items. We packed our cooler with champagne and brought beach chairs. It was an easy walk over to thesmall beach. It was our last night on Nantucket and we toasted the trip with a beautiful sunset. It was the perfect end to our beautiful Nantucket visit

Madaket is the western most point on Nantucket so they are always spectacular. The sandy beach is long and clean with nice waves most days. If you are driving a 4 wheeler you can drive out to the end of the point.

In town for a wedding. The bride/groom rented a beautiful home, feet away from Madaket Beach. They hosted a beautiful Welcome Party/BBQ and it was topped off with a beautiful sunset on the beach. We all gathered on the beach to take in the sunset and it was beautiful, well worth watching.

I love Madaket beach! Every night we would drive to watch the sunset. Every evening, another beautiful sunset. There is a small parking lot with free parking, bring your picnic basket and blanket and have some drinks and snacks. The perfect ending after a perfect day in the sun at Madaket beach:) Great for the whole family.

Madaket is a great place to go off road and catch a great sunset. Rent a jeep ride on the sand dunes and park just before sunset to catch the most amazing colors in the sky.

Amazing beach where you are allowed to drive off-road, or even better, oversand. Keep driving all the way to the end of the tip, it's allowed, and watch the sunset. Unforgettable experience..... Go for it!
