We saw once at night from the outside as part of a Ghost walk and then the next day got to go inside as part of the house tour. The guide poured us all iced tea, lemonade, or Arnold Palmers which was unexpected and so nice. She had also known the eccentric women who lived here which was cool to hear about.

A vey different experience for Nantucket. I saw this house on two different house tours, with two very different stories told about it. The creators were certainly visionaries. It's a great mixture of new, old, beautiful and eerie.

Had a great visit at this barn turned house/artist studio. Hopefully Ann and Duncan will be your guides. They were fabulous and have great passion for the house. The reclaimed gates, windows, columns, furniture and art/paintings and the stories behind them are interesting and a feast for the eyes. The two sisters who owned this home were far ahead of their time with the plans and remodeling they did. For sure take time to check it out.

Every room has a new quirky detail that Hannah and Gertrude "had to have" to complete their dream summer home in the late 1920s. One of the most interesting parts was imagining how all the neighbors were outraged by the eccentricities these sisters brought over to the island. The guides were well informed and pointed out interesting details in each room. The gardens are serene and open to public without admission. To tour the house I recommend the all access pass to all the historic sites for $20. A real hidden gem on the historical tour circuit in Nantucket.

This is a fascinating house - created from a barn by two wealthy and devout sisters it showcases art and architecture aquired by two eccentric sisters. The guides are knowledgable and friendly and it is well worth a look (especially if you have visited the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston)

I liked the eccentric sisters' style. The house was unique. Would have liked to know more about them. But The tour guides could only tell you the 2 sisters came from a wealthy family & got what they wanted! No matter how impractical or obscure!!

Interesting stop in downtown Nantucket. Greater Light is a unique structure reflecting the social and artistic happenings of its time. If you are interested in repurposed buildings and seeing incorporation of architectural salvage into interior and exterior design, you may find it especially cool.
