We were looking for a place to go for a short hike on a recent sunny warm autumn afternoon and found some info about Whip Hill Park in Stoneham. It was nearby so we went to check it out. The park is off the main roads but it wasn't too hard to find, and the grounds were beautiful. The house was interesting from the outside but there were no tours and it wasn't clear if it was open to the public. The park itself is on the small side at only 30 acres, but the trails cross over into the neighboring park which goes over to the Stone Zoo and Spot Pond, so it seems a lot larger. The trails were not well used and it was a bit confusing, but we had a lovely walk in the woods and if you are looking for a quiet getaway it is certainly a good option. It didn't seem like it would have been right for handicap access, but the terrain was mostly easy to traverse on foot for anyone fit enough to do a bit of woods hiking.

The grounds are well kept. The trails are well marked. Skating on small pond in the winter, hiking with your dog that goes on for miles into the Middlesex Fells. In the spring the trees are blooming all around while you hike. The fall the beautiful leaves surround you. Hard to believe this hidden gem exists so pristine.

They have a great little Christmas time event where Santa is at the big house for free pictures. He really takes his time with each child and you can take as many pictures on your own camera as you want. They offer free hot chocolate and cookies and there is a train village set up. They don't advertise it very much, so you really have to look out for when it will be each year.

This is a great place for a stroll or taking mans best friend for a walk. I believe this trail is linked to the Stoneham resevoir so there are ample trails.

What a find! Winding woodland paths surround this lovely former private estate, now owned and administered by the City of Stoneham. It's very low key but perfect for a quiet hike. The trails connect up with those of the MIddlesex Fells so if you're in the mood for a long hike you can do it. It's charming!

It's a wonderful resource, especially for all the neighbors who can take their dogs or themselves for a nice walk in the woods right in the heart of a suburban area.
