The trail starts nice and well maintained, you pass a cemetery just out of the parking lot. I took the cut off trail to try and save some time and it quickly got very muddy. My feet were quickly soaked, so I gave up trying to dance around and find dry spots which made it much easier. The trail is a bit hard to follow at times, and when it finally hit the stream, I missed that it crossed, and went down stream a bit. I doubled back and saw why I missed it, the boulders that you may be able to cross at times, were completely submerged. I debated trying to cross for a bit, then decided to continue downstream and see if I could catch a glimpse of the falls. I finally found a few spots to take in the falls, although imagine the view is better from the other side. My path to a view was pretty hairy at times and I wouldn't recommend it, although I surely wasn't the first person to blaze down that side of the river. I think it could be a great trail with some stone in the muddy areas and a better river crossing.

Due to so much mud I was unable to do the whole trail :(. My older children continued on. They were very disapionted when they got to the water fall because they thought it would be bigger. We all agreed it was a wasted trip.

We stopped the car at the parking lot and followed the yellow trail. There were places where it is very wet and muddy, so use hiking shoes. A few brooks to pass and hiking along the river. We stopped at shelter, nice view to the river. Our 4 year-old son loved it and his is our guide looking to the yellow marks and walking in front of us. The waterfall is beautiful and worth it but nor with very small kids. The way back my spouse had to carry our son:)

White Mountain gorge right here in Royalston. Along with 2 more falls all of then excellent. Nice easy hike in, "get a map on line". If you bring the kids hold their hands as the falls area has some high areas.

Easy hike to a nice area. Easy hike and good clean trials. Beautiful falls and a secluded area. In a remote town with some nice nearby outdoor activities.

Truly spectacular location. Great views on the trails and the pools and falls are magnificent. At the parking area, there is absolutely no information including a static posted map which is absolutely un-Trustee like in the days before all the land managers and foresters were fired. Also, the trails in spots are not in the condition the would have been previously. Have to say the shelter is a really nice feature for hikers. The old signs are good where this intersects the other trails for continuing to Tully Lake or to Mount Monadnock but the newer signs aren't as well done or may not relate as they are generic.

We hiked down to the falls and back out. Really pretty. Careful to use the hand rail around the falls as it can get slick. It's pretty rocky so watch those ankles.
