doyle community park

We love to take our child to the playground at Doyle Park. There are many children playing and lots of people walking on the dirt track that runs the inside of the park. They need a few more benches on the sides of the playground as most of the benches are directly in the sun but other than that it is great. In the warm months an Ice Cream Truck goes by and the kids can have a nice treat!I would recommend this to any friends or family looking for a nice playground in the warm months.

Bad grammar aside (ah, cellphone typing), Doyle Community Park has improved and the Trustees with some changes in regions again are improving at land management. There's still a long way to go to return to the land management days of 8-10 years ago but it's a big improvement.Additionally, the accessible trails have been extended and improved. I enjoy running with my dog there again but for those interested in going with your dog, be advised that no dogs are allowed between roughly April 15 and August 15 because it's ground nesting birds like Bobolinks and Red-winged Blackbirds. There are a lot of turkeys with poults during this time of the year as well.Overall, I'm happier with what's been happening although I'm unhappy about DCC being rented to Leominster schools. I'm glad the building is being used but it's not accessible to the public, nor are the restrooms, and it's my understanding that this is NOT in keeping with Louise Doyle's wishes.

A favorite place to take my dog for a walk. Miles of hiking trails through the woods, as well as open fields and large garden areas. There is a very nice pathway suitable for handicapped access. The Trustees provide doggie bags for waste pickup and disposal. Dogs are not allowed in the open fields in the spring when birds are nesting. There are nice gardens surrounding the old Doyle home, and we've attended a wedding on the grounds which was very pleasant. The Doyle Center, across the street from the Doyle home, is also a nice place for events. The property surrounds the Leominster Boys and Girls club on three sides - which may be one of the finest Boys and Girls Club facilities you will ever encounter. The Doyle property is open year round and people enjoy snowshoeing and cross country skiing during the winter months. I have also noticed several letter-boxing stashes while out walking. It is a nice retreat.

This property used to deserve 5 stars. Now it's merely average.I've spent a lot of time at Doyle Community Park going back to well before it's current name change and before the Doyle estate was open to the public. The Trustees of Reservations since merging not quite 10 years ago have really abdicated their historic land management role. I do support their new community outreach mission but they shouldn't have abandoned their historic role. Officially, they say they haven't. All the land managers were let gone in the last 5 years and the regions consolidated. They talk of this being a time of fiscal austerity and there is no talk of the $65 Million by the now previous CEO in 2006. And why is the head of a non-profit now called CEO instead of Executive Director?!A good example of lack of land management is that even trees in the parking lot of the Doyle Conservation Center that were damaged in the October snow storm weren't even pruned until April. Under the previous director, they would have been trimmed as rapidly as the trees could heathily support it, probably within a week or two. This is symptomatic. Other properties show more neglect in the old Central Region.Since Louise Doyle's passing, major changes have happened to the properties now called Doyle Community Park. The changes in landscaping and their new accessible trails have made the property feel fairly ordinary as it no longer feels remote despite being nestled next to Rt. 2. Some of the old fencing has been removed that was a bit of an eye sore and some of my favorite trails have been let go. The accessible trails really could have gone where existing trails were and it would have retained a more remote feel.I still feel fortunate to have this property so close but I know Louise is spinning in her grave over some of the decision making and likely changes to come. I've shifted to going to non-Trustee properties because because it's sad to see. I've gone back here a few times recently. I just don't feel the same about it and continue to drive to other places despite this being walking distance.I dropped my Trustees membership several years ago as a result.

After living in Leominster for several years, I finally made a visit to Doyle Park with my dog. This is a beautiful location that makes you forget you are in a city with the exception of airplanes and rt 2 traffic noise. It has great hiking trails that are well labeled and easy to navigate. It is clean and trails were well kept. I saw several animals including hawks and deer. Definately worth the trip.

Safe playground for the children and a very peaceful place to meditate and relax
