This is a quaint, beautiful building that you will probably recognize from paintings and photos. You can view it easily front he town pier.

Even locals like to photography Motif Number 1. I agree with others - early in the morning or at sunset is best. The lighting is just right and crows are low. I also encourage visiting in the winter. The brilliant blue of the water contrasted against white show and blue sky makes for an amazing photo opportunity. However, if you are from out of town, make sure to note the limited parking. Most of the parking closest to the Motif requires a special resident permit. Park up in the town and walk to avoid ticketing and/or towing. (I've seen it happen a couple of times.)

Go first thing in the morning when you'll have this iconic building all to yourself. Your pictures will turn out amazing and you can park right by it. It's really just a weathered red fisherman's shack but it has long been a favorite of artists and photographers because it's downright charming. The little port and sea are breathtaking on a sunny Spring morning.

Couldn't take enough pictures of this place. It's beautiful and quiet, especially in the early morning hours. Not only did we find the Motiff a great building to shot, there were lot's of boats and plenty of seagulls and loons.

No dislikes. An interesting and famous building in Rockportthat at one time (and maybe still is) used for storage for thelobstermens' traps.

This old fishing storage building is an iconic symbol of Rockport. It is lovely in its timeless practicality.

You can't come to Rockport and not photograph the famous Motif #1. Walk over and read its history on the side of the building.

Rockport is a beautiful quiet little fishing village on the coast of Massachusetts. It is an absolute must see if you are in the neighborhood. Motif 1 creates such a picturesque harbor view that most visitors just sit down and watch it all. If you want some peace and quiet, visit Rockport. and Motif 1. Many movies were shot here... and it is for a reason.

A delightful stop and just gorgeous area to photograph. You can come for just a few minutes or stay over an hour if so inclined. We came back on several occasions as the boats and views change daily, along with the weather conditions. Afterwards, take your pick of photos to keep. The free parking on one side of the wharf is quickly grabbed up by 10:00 a.m. each morning but plenty of metered parking is just down the street and a short walk away. The other side of the wharf is not for the general public. ***TIP: Look for different views and angles from the back sides of businesses and restaurants along Bearskin Neck.

Beautiful! The movie "The Proposal" with Sandra Bullock & Ryan Reynolds had this in it, but in the movie, it was supposed to be Sitka, Alaska. Fun to watch movies & see places you've been! Picturesque area!

When we are in gloucester we always make a stop in rockport. When we are in rockport, we always stop and admire this landmark. A must see if you are in the area!

It is a small red barn type building with bouys on it. There were so many party yachts parked around it I couldn't get a pic of it without any drunkards handing around it. Nothing special but a landmark anyhow.

Rockport is a quaint seaside village. Although we visited Labor Day weekend, the tourist crowds weren't too bad. The village and shops are quite fun, and it was nice to see Motif Number 1, but it's just a simple red boat-house (albeit a much photographed one).

The view was breathtaking….so New England with boats docked and the red "barn"/boat house. Very peaceful looking.

I'm almost not even going to post any of my pics cause they all look the same except for this one, yet I can't stop myself from snapping away whenever I visit. It epitomizes what coastal New England is in many people's minds, except Hollywood's. The movie "The Proposal" with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds (for the guys and gals) and Betty White (for the grand parents ;) was shot here except they CGI'd Alaskan snow capped mountains in the background...movie magic! Watch the movie, look at the photos, imagine the smell of salt air with a hint of fishy scent and you're there!
