A "MUST DO" activity if you are visiting Alaska! It's an incredible way to see the spectacular landscape and wildlife of Alaska! We were a group of 6 ( 2 adults and 4 children ages 9, 11, 13 and 15) and we chose to do the full day ride...well worth it!!! Two in our group are experienced riders and horse owners and the others had no prior experience. Josh, the owner of the business, was our guide for the day and is a truly gifted, hard-working horseman! He loves his horses and knows them all so well! He matches the horse and riders up perfectly, which made for a safe and very enjoyable day! The horses know their jobs and are not at all your typical follow the leader trail horses! They enjoy their jobs, are sure-footed, balanced, and light in the bit. They are forward-yet responsive to rider aids, so every rider feels confident and safe! Josh knows the land and certainly made sure we experienced the landscape! He helped take amazing pictures of us! Since this was an all day ride, we packed our own lunches and Josh provided a large saddle bag so we didn't have to use our backpacks. He also packed rain gear for everyone, but the day was so beautiful, we thankfully didn't need it! We stopped for lunch with gorgeous scenery surrounding us and ate while the horses were happy eating grass off to the side....they truly are solid, safe and very happy horses! They also are quality Tennessee Walkers, which makes for a much smoother and comfortable ride for those who are newbies since they do not have a jarring trot. Overall, the day was truly amazing and by the end of the ride, we really bonded with our horses and just fell in love with them....many memories were made! My son has not stopped talking about his adorable horse, Thunder! Josh was so welcoming, sweet, and accommodating! He made any adjustments necessary during the ride to ensure we were all comfortable and enjoying every moment of the experience. We rode through wooded trails, open areas, water, and up and down hills. The horses handled all scenarios and terrain like pros which allowed their riders to really take in all the beauty that surrounded us! Overall, we highly recommend experiencing Alaska's landscape on horseback with Josh and Alaska Horse Adventures. Thank you Josh, Thunder, Daisy, Midnight, Princess, Mocha, and Patience for an incredible day that we will never forget!!!! We had soooo much fun!

We had a wonderful 2 hour ride through beautiful country. We were matched with horses that were perfect for my family, the teenagers having no riding experience. Would definitely recommend as a great way to get to fabulous views for great family photos.

Thank you Joshua! It all boils down to our leader. Joshua knows the area, the horses, and can guage the abilities of each rider so as to match each rider to the right horse for them to have an enjoyable ride. It was an awesome day. Thanks again, Ukrainian Princess, and Will P.S. Prince is a spirited "teenager", and Patience was just that with my lack of riding experience. We are both a bit saddle sore today....padded bicycle shorts would have been a good idea.

While visiting the area in March, we went on a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the forested areas. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Joshua was a great guide and driver. Made us feel so welcome. The horses were beautiful. At the end, we were treated to hot chocolate and a warming fire. Great memories and we can't wait to visit again!

My wife and I went on a rude along the Knik. It was great. Saw a moose and explored some amazing wilderness on horse back. Definitely will be coming back.

We went for a 2 hour horseback ride with Alaska Horse Adventures yesterday. What a wonderful experience! By we, I mean 3 adults (all mid-40's) and 3 children (ages 11, 13, and 15). Our guide, Josua, was very patient with us as only 1 of us had significant horseback riding experience. The horses were spirited, but well behaved. This was no plodding, one-horse-after-the-other-stay-in-line-don't-go-too-fast experience. We moved along at a good pace and were free to change up the order or walk abreast in the places where the trail was wide enough. We covered a fair bit of ground alongside the Knik river, but the highlight was at the end, when Josua brought us up to a view spot on the top of a small rise. WOW! What a view! Josua made sure we got enough pictures with everyone in them and really made the trip enjoyable for everyone. We talked about all things Alaska as we walked, but it was clear he always had an eye on everyone to make sure everyone was comfortable and in control. At one point my daughter (the 11 year old) started to get tired, so he tied up her horse to his to ensure her safety and continued enjoyment for the rest of the trip. The horses were fantastic and everyone bonded with his or her own horse by the end of the trip. Most of the horses were Tennessee Walkers, which evidently have a smoother gate, even when moving more quickly. All I can say is that I never had any problems with the trip being too jarring or in any way unpleasant. My horse, Lasso, was spirited and always seemed to want to pick up the pace (which I let him do to a small degree in some open areas) but he remained responsive and immediately slowed down to whatever pace I desired with the smallest tug on his reins. The person in our party who owns her own horse and rides weekly, if not daily, in the spring and summer where she lives, couldn't say enough nice things about how well behaved and solid the horses were. At one point an ATV came pretty close by, which she assures me would unsettled her own somewhat skittish horse. Our horses took the intrusion in stride, with no apparent alarm. Overall, I can't say enough good things about Alaska Horse Adventures. If you'd like to get out into the woods and see Alaska from a unique perspective, I highly recommend a horseback ride with Alaska Horse Adventures.
