It is an extraordinary experience to walk among the bears in the Preserve. I can not express how awesome it was. You only need a couple days in my opinion because other then experiencing the bears there is not much to do. Word of caution though.....there are black flies in the summer and not one time did I hear they existed during the bear orientation or from other guests but I was eaten alive! They land on you especially around the back of your neck and inject you with a something that will numb the area then they literally eat your flesh. I know it sounds so gruesome but I awoke in the morning to find several large bites on my neck that were as deep as a pea. It took three weeks for it to heal. You can wear bug repellent but it needs to be really strong. I stayed in the campground which added to the adventure. Highly recommend you go if you ever get the chance. If you are into photography...it's an absolute must.

Watching the river flow from various platforms and the shoreline was very relaxing. Seeing the salmon jump in the river was great!

Beautiful scenery and the fishing looked good. Amazing national park to visit. Gorgeous and peaceful.

From the viewing platform near the camp one could view an extensive area of the river winding its way through tall grasses. Bears could be seen running, snorkelling or diving into the river in search of salmon.

Staying at the lodges might be pricy, but this is a once in a lifetime experience. We stayed at the campsite, but you have to make reservations early in January if you want to go in high season July or September. We had an unforgettable 4 days at this beautiful camp. (and where lucky having 4 days of beautiful weather)

Sing loudly as you want the woodside path along the river. There are bear trails and people paths but the bears get mixed up. Lots of scat on the path makes for an exciting walk for sure!

We took a water plan from Homer out to Katmai. To Brooks River. It was a highlight of our trip to see these amazing bears so close. It was scary to think abou the bears being just feet away from the wooden board walk that you stand on and knowing they could take the board walk out if they wanted to . But they are only interested in the fish. If I went back one day I would stay overnight to get the full experience. We took unbelievable photos of bears catching fish in mid air. Once in a lifetime must.

Existe uma plataforma para a observação dos ursos! Nos fomos na altíssima temporada e chegamos a ver onze ursos juntos no rio, alguns caçando e outros apenas descansando. Inesquecível!!!
