There are so many things to do in Historic Old Town Opelika. If you're interested in looking at old homes, if you keep heading North you will discover many fine examples of Victorian Opulent Architecture. A great thrift shop called 'Rolands' is a local treasure not to be missed with amazingly low prices and unique finds arriving monthly (be aware his hours are 10-3pm.) The Museum of East Alabama is also located here and is full of great items from its regional area that date from 3,000 BC to the present day. This town was once a Major Railroad hub with tracks capable of heading out in 5 different directions. You can see the beautifully restored old train Depot which is lovely and even has a picturesque little stream and garden lovingly landscaped beside it. For a hip evening experience, the downtown shops host Late Hours and dining specials the 1st Friday of every month. A brand new event center has opened which host Chic new band venues and the town now boasts its own Whisky Distillery located right beside. Great shops can be discovered when visiting Opelika's downtown area such as 'New York Fashions', Fringe Consignment Shop, 'Almost Anything' Bargain Thrift Store, and the most recently discovered oldest Coca-Cola Shop known to exist in the Deep South at Smith T's Historic Hardware Store which has been in business since the late 1800's. Do consider a visit to Opelika's Historic District which has been lovingly restored and updated to offer something for everyone's every delight.
