Columbiana has a hidden treasure in the George Washington Museum. The collection is impressive and the curator/guide is very knowledgeable and you could tell he had a passion for the Washingtons. This museum makes a trip to Columbiana a great adventure! A must see! You will NOT be disappointed.

My wife and I visited this museum a couple of years ago and were impressed. We went again last week with a church group and it was just as interesting the second time. The man who explained the various items on display was very knowledgeable about the items and the history and genealogy of the family. The museum normally closes at 3:00 pm, but it stayed open till around 5:00 pm to accommodate our group.

If you are a history buff, then make plans to visit the George Washington Museum in Columbiana, Alabama, Shelby County. The museum has an extensive collection of memorabillia from George Washington and Martha. The museum has many personal donated items. The trip is interesting for adults and children. Call the Columbiana Public Library to make a reservation for a group or personal tour of the museum. I took an entire class of 5th graders there. They were fascinated.

I was in Columbiana recently for a cousins reunion, and we visited this wonderful museum. It is a Washington family treasure trove! Columbiana is extremely fortunate to have such an extensive collection. Karl Harrison's daughter Helen greeted us and stayed with us on our tour, which was led by their extremely knowledgeable curator. I highly recommend that you add this to your agenda if you are in the area.
