My wife really wanted to go to Mardi Gras world and I am so glad that we did. The entrance price includes a guided tour as well as a 15 minute intro movie on the history of Mardi Gras. You also get to see the how the floats and figures are made as well as many of the floats in the giant warehouse which is fascinating. Once the guided tour ends you are free to roam and look at all the floats for as long as you want. Of note a free Mardi Gras shuttle is available for transport to either the French Quarter or to Canal street. If you have a few hours to kill this is a great place to visit.

Mardi Gras World is a bit far from the French Quarter, but they have a convenient free shuttle service. They can come pick you up after a quick call to them, and then once you're there, you can play with some Mardi Gras outfits and take pictures, then watch a historical movie about the celebrations, and then your tour guide will take you around the warehouse to see the floats and decorations (some are really elaborate!). I love that after the tour, you can walk around by yourself and take pictures, and then the shuttle will take you back. I'm not sure exactly where their stops are, but they have a few around town. They won't come exactly to you like a Supershuttle does, but we still found it very convenient.

I thought this was a little pricey for what you got, but it was definitely interesting to see. Having not been able to come to New Orleans during Mardi Gras, it does give you a sense of what happens. They start with a video that shows the history of the floats and how the figures are made. This was very informative and kept your interest throughout. After the movie you get to try the "king cake." This was tasty, though they didn't spend a lot of time explaining how this fit with the Mardi Gras experience. Then it's on to the workshop area. This could have been very fascinating and I would have loved to have spent more time. Unfortunately we were on a tour with a lot of children, and I think they pushed it along a little faster. There were people working on float pieces which was neat to watch. I had no idea how the pieces were made so it was quite fascinating. After the workshop you are left on your own to explore around the warehouse. There are many pieces to look at; although in the dingy warehouse setting everything looks a little shabbier than expected. But I guess it's to be expected; these pieces are in storage awaiting reuse or refurbishing as something else. We took the shuttle from canal street which was easy - except the pick up place is not marked. Based on the map the hotel gave me, I asked a street vendor and they said to just wait on the edge of the street where I was. It did work. We had to wait longer than I would have expected for a return shuttle, but it did come and was free which is really nice.

This is a must if you like to see new things. I would advise not to drive to this place. Parking is not free and it is at the Port of New Orleans. The shuttle is free and they picked us up about 10 minutes after we called. You have to be in Downtown if you want to ride the shuttle. The tour guide was very friendly. You could try on costumes, watch a short film about Madi Gras and then..eat King Cake! That The tour starts and you are able to see people working on new floats for next years Madi Gras. You can take as many photos as you like, but just do not use the flash int he work room because people are working on ladders and with saws. Once the tour is over, you are free to roam and take your time looking up close to the floats. We will never be in town for Madi Gras, so this was the next best thing.

We found Mardi Gras World to be interesting. It was quit a short tour, but you do get to mingle around and take photos and see how Mardi Gras props are made. One visit was enough for us.

We did enjoy the 1 hour guided tour, but it was expensive for what it was. With my coupon, we spent $80 for my family of 4 including the parking fee. Great introduction to how Mardi Gras is celebrated in New Orleans.

We had so much fun exploring the float-filled warehouse at our leisure and of course the costumes and King Cake only added to the fun! It felt like we were kids again :) Check out our post for more, including some awesome photos too!http://mrandmrsadventure.com/2015/03/11/3-tours-you-cant-miss-when-in-new-orleans/

Ok...I admit it...I decided to visit it on a whim while riding the hop on/hop off bus. I thought that it was just another way to separate tourists from their money...but I was wrong! It was very interesting to see how the floats and all the art work are produced. Touristy...yes...but well done and fascinating. The free shuttle was a great bonus.
