It actually is very difficult to change the website as to hours open for tours or not. We do decide to do maintenance on an as needed basis, and sometimes this cannot be predicted. Since the webmaster and the manager are in different states it is simply impossible to notify the webmaster and have him post that we are closed for renovation and maintenance. We sincerely apologize for not being able to comply with proper etiquette. This review is the second 1 star review we have received in several months for "locked gate" or "did not actually tour". As a result, we will be closing our doors for impromptu tours for the foreseeable future. We will be changing the website as quickly as possible...which may take several days to accomplish. We will, as of today, only provide tours on a "reservation basis" only. We really believed that we were providing the public an opportunity not previously afforded. We will NOT operate tours unless we can provide the public the the finest of experiences. We truly regret that we have to make this change in tours. The Bed and Breakfast will remain open as in the past. Marion Rundell, Owner, Bocage Plantation

By far the best place we stayed at during our road trip. The handsome, charming Roberto is a true southern gentleman and without a doubt the host with the most! the ambience was wonderful and the breakfast delicious. Roberto was considerate, generous and gracious, we really didn't want to leave. one day I will return and stay for a week, to be thoroughly spoiled.Thank you Roberto for making our stay so special and memorable. Bless you.Teresa and Grace London, UK.

Roberto & Amy were awesome hosts. Very blessed to have been able to share in this great American treasure! If you are planning a trip to Louisiana sugar cane plantation area, you simply MUST stay at Bocage! All of the tour plantation homes are just minutes away including The Sugar Palace.

After reading the very positive reviews on tripadvisor, I booked 2 rooms at the Bocage Plantation as a surprise wedding anniversary gift for my wife and daughters in August 2014. On arrival we were greeted by the manager, Roberto, who was very pleasant and welcoming. Although the plantation does need some minor work on the exterior (ie the front wooden stairs as noted in other reviews), the inside of the plantation was immaculate and a pleasant atmosphere for all to enjoy. When we asked Roberto about the history of the plantation and antique furniture, he was very knowledgeable and informative. If you want a place to take that special person in your life, I would highly recommend this location, it is very romantic and makes you feel like you are living in the 1800's.

What a wonderful getaway this trip to Bocage was for my best friend and I!!! I can hardly wait to go back one day soon! Before we even arrived, Roberto called me to ask about the types of snacks and beverages we would enjoy the most. From the moment we drove up to this magnificent plantation, we were thoroughly impressed! It is very well kept and so very beautiful! Roberto met us at the door with a welcoming and helpful smile. He carried all of the luggage upstairs to our room, and he showed us around the plantation. The furnishings are just one of the many things that will insure we return. Roberto was so knowledgeable about the area and he offered me several suggestions for dining that evening. Upon returning, it was so easy to relax. The room was very large and comfortable, and the bathroom was amazing! The claw foot tub seemed to be calling my name, but the large steam shower was even more inviting! This weekend was the first time for me to stay in a plantation. The previous night we stayed at another plantation home. The Bocage was much more impressive. We very much enjoyed our conversation with Roberto and the other guest in the house that night. It was such a nice environment to relax and unwind.

Bocage is situated along the Mississippi River...ground zero of the Mississippi River delta. Outside we have spiders, mosquitoes, Japanese lady bug invasion (in January and February). We have snakes, alligators, and all kinds of wildlife. Roberto does his best to keep the exterior clean...frequently powerwashing the porches. Literally, overnight spider webs and the like may appear. It is simply the way life is and used to be along the Mississippi River...we can't change the wildlife! 12 Years a Slave was filmed on the very porch that this reviewer complains about. It is unfortunate that Bocage received this review...but it proves the point "you can't please all the people, all the time". We simply can't please these folks and wish them well in other places. Please check out the true reviews for B and B stays for Bocage. This one is simply unfair to Bocage. Roberto is the best. Bocage is the best.

Went on 25th anniversary trip and stayed in Bocage July 8 and 9. We stayed in 7 different bed and breakfasts on our trip. Bocage was without a doubt the best and most enjoyable stay. The house is beautifully decorated with antiques. The bedrooms are wonderful and the beds are so comfortable. We really enjoyed spending our first night sitting and talking with another couple from California and Roberto. Roberto is a wonderful innkeeper, loves his job and makes you feel so welcome. Roberto made two very good breakfasts. Really hated to leave Bocage Plantation. I would highly recommend a stay at Bocage and can`t wait to return.

This review and reviewer are totally unfair to Bocage. They were there at a time that tours were NOT offered. Bocage offers tours from 12:00-5:00 pm Wednesday through Sunday. They were there at 11:45 AM. When they called the manager, who was buying groceries for overnight guests, they indicated that his response was that he was blocked by a train and couldn't be there for 30 minutes. At most, this would have been a 15 minute delay and in this part of Louisiana, where trains are frequent and long, this is not an unfair response time...considering that half of the time they were there...Bocage was closed to tours. People wait at other plantations for up to an hour for a tour. Roberto, the manager, is simply the best. Bocage is the best.

It's quiet elegance and beauty is unsurpassable. This beautiful plantation has been renovated with tasteful antiques and state of the art facilities and is a wonderful combination of modern and old world charm. She is a must to enjoy!

The home is beautiful with wonderful period antique furnishings. We very much enjoyed the hospitality of Roberto and the outstanding breakfast. Although Roberto is new at managing an upscale B&B, he makes up for any lack of experience with enthusiasm and knowledge of the restoration of the house. The wine we were served in the evening was quite good. I wouldn't suggest skipping dinner for the cheese and snacks. The real attraction of the home is the impressive collection of antique furnishings right down to the china and silver service on the table at breakfast. Bocage is perfect for a stay for several days while visiting the great plantation homes on the River Road.

Three friends and I just returned from a trip to Louisiana and the highlight of our trip was our stay at Bocage Plantation. We had the blue and gold rooms. They were lovely. The rooms are huge and the furnishings are gorgeous and authentic to the 19th century restoration of the house. As everyone else has mentioned, Roberto is the best innkeeper around. He made us feel so welcome and the house felt like it belonged to us while we were there. He made us iced tea and mint juleps, which we enjoyed on the terrace in the afternoon and an amazing breakfast the next day. Roberto is very personable and made our stay special. We had stayed the previous night at Houmas Plantation and there was no comparison. Although Houmas Plantation is lovely, it was much more fun to stay at Bocage. We really couldn't have asked for more and can't wait to return. Next time we plan on bringing more friends and taking over the whole house!!

A must stop in Louisiana. Roberto is a wonderful, knowledgeable , gracious, funny and friendly innkeeper. We adored him. We didn't get to know Amy much at all. Roberto took so much time to tell us the history and gave my husband Reed a wonderful tour of the entire Plantation and grounds. He also serves excellent wine and makes a wonderful breakfast. he was a charming host for sure.Fantastic restoration of this beautiful plantation. This is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. We stayed in the Red Room. Beautiful and the bed was so amazingly comfortable. The room was spotless. We called and booked this room an hour before arriving in the evening. Roberto was so gracious to let us stay at the last minute. We were the only guests that night and he was on his way to town for the evening, he turned around, came back and made us feel so welcomed. Thank you Roberto!!!One of the things I enjoyed most about Bocage is that nothing was off limits. No ropes blocking access to the rooms and furnishings. It felt like a beautiful, inviting home meant to be fully enjoyed by it's guests. We ended up in a terrible car accident shortly after leaving here and our vacation ended abruptly, but our stay at Bocage was the highlight of our visit to Louisiana! Thank you Roberto for treating us so wonderfully.

This place reminds you to the scenes in the movie "Gone with the wind".The rooms are extraordinarily decorated; the hosts are very friendly and caring although still learning to get to the high level of a B&B classic place, but they will get there. This place is a much better experience than a regular hotel and worth to inhale the atmosphere of the Mississippi area.

My husband and I frequently go to New Orleans for Saints games, and typically stay in the French Quarters. With a home Saints/49ers game, when I got ready to book our rooms, none were to be found. Then I remembered what a great time we had had two years ago staying at Bocage, which is in between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, and immediately called to book! We loved the red room with it's large bath, steam shower, and walk-in closet area. Roberto and Amy were very helpful and sweet to us, were able to answer any questions we had, and went out of their way to insure that we were well taken care of. The furnishings at Bocage are spectacular, as well as the architecture if you enjoy Greek Revival, as we do. Breakfast was yummy...(thank you guys for the herbal tea, as coffee is not on my "can do" list right now), and we always enjoy the dogs that roam the grounds outside! We will definitely be back. My husband commented on how much more relaxed he felt staying there than in the French Quarters!
