I only gave 3 stars because you aren't able to tour; but its an amazing piece of architecture! Sure would love to get inside to check it out.

This castle is privately owned and not open to the public at this time. I have been told there are occasional tours but no info on how to find out about them was available.

I mentioned in my original review that the castle isn't open to the public. And you do not have to be on the busy street in front of it to see the beautiful home. If you are in the area you are probably visiting Berkeley Springs State Park. As I mentioned in the original review, there is a narrow road right behind the park that you can walk up until you get to some stone steps that lead to a small stone tower across the street from the castle. After looking up the history of the castle we just wanted to see it and you can do that without even crossing or standing on the busy street. Just stand next to the tower. You may not be able to go inside but it's still a sight to behold.

The castle is not open to the public, you can only drive past it on the mountain road. I give it 2 stars because it shouldn't be listed as an attraction... as I said before it's a drive by. However, should they ever open it up for tours, I would be first in line. Would love to see inside!

The castle is off-limits to the public so it should probably be removed from the attractions listings. Thanks to another post, we realized we wouldn't be able to see it and crossed it off our to-do list while visiting Berkeley Springs.

Attractions are things you can see and witness. This castle is gated up and is not open to tbe public. It should in no way be called an attraction. Unless you book a wedding or event you cant go in. It is on a steep busy hill and you only can drive fast

It's no longer open to the public but it can rented for weddings, parties, or meetings. It can be seen from downtown Berkeley Springs and you can walk up a narrow road behind the Berkeley Springs State Park (after you look at the old spring water baths) for a closer look. As you walk up the narrow road you will come to some stone steps leading to a small tower across the street from the castle. Some locals told us there is a tunnel running under the road from the small tower to the castle. German masons were hired to cut the stone and build the castle. It took from 1885 - 1891 to complete the project.
