had a blast one season watching Honey and the Rock and the Hatfields and McCoys at Grandview amphitheater. It was 2 great productions with good acting in both. I truly enjoyed myself and so did my son. A must see! You get good family entertainment and a history lesson combined.

I have lived in Beckley for 25 years and was always ashamed to say that I had never been to Theatre WV except for a production of Oklahoma about 15-20 years ago. The real Theatre WV is outdoor. I got interested because they had been having some financial problems and going to see The Hatfield and McCoys was on my "to do" list--really a nicer term than "Bucket List"--thank you, sister Ann for that distinction. Everyone always talked about how great this attraction was. It did not disappoint. I have seen shows on Broadway, touring companies in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, and have been to the VA state theatre in Abington, VA. Who ever knew that the big talent was in my backyard? Many of these actors worked for free--they just didn't want to see the theatre close. It seems like Theatre WV is back! I really enjoyed the show--and there are some voices who could compete with some of the Broadway voices. The two top McCoys--Randall and Spirit, were especially good. I hope that they have a bigger schedule next year and that we keep attracting talent to WV.

My husband and I love this park and theatre. We make a point to stop each time we're on our way through to Florida. This summer we saw The Hatfields and the McCoys and it was great. Two summers ago we saw Honey in the Rock which we loved best of all. This is a real community effort but the production and theatre itself are 100% professional. Nothing like sitting under the stars and enjoying the theatre..don't miss it!THE GOOD: The plays themselves are fantastic - great acting, amazing scenery. The seating is terrific, not a bad seat in the house. The scenery of the park is worth 2 hours at least before show time!THE NOT SO GOOD: The sound this summer wasn't as good as a few years ago :)THE BOTTOM LINE: Go! Enjoy :)ADVICE: Go early to walk the short trails and see the best view of the River anywhere ...

I highly recommend visiting this outdoor theater. Hatfields and McCoys and Honey In the Rock are excellent shows. Professional acting. Nice atmosphere with clean, fresh mountain air. Remember, evenings in the mountains can be cool so wear appropriate clothing, bring a jacket along.

Theatre WV is awesome. This year they are offering the Hatfields and MCoys and it is very well put together. Grandview National Park is where the theatre is located so if you have time visit the park before the show the views are amazing.

My family and I went to see the Wizard of Oz, Hatfields and McCoys, and Honey in the Rock. All the shows were great and lots of fun for families. The acting was good as well as the sets and music. It is an outdoor theatre so bring bug spray and a blanket or coat as well as it can get cool in the evening. Plus, the admission is fairly cheap compared to most theatres.

Outdoor Theatre is NOT DEAD at Grandview and it is a Must See Event. We went to the production of the Hatfield and McCoy Drama and it was Wonderful. The story jumped right off the pages of history and featured a great cast. Loved the music and dancing.

Contrary to some listings, this show is NOT closed. The acting and singing is excellent, the story compelling, and the evening enjoyable. A lovely evening!

Our group attended an evening performance of The Hatfields and the McCoys. We arrived an hour early and enjoyed a local group singing mostly original, folksy tunes until show time. Prior to the show, a man talked about the history of the theater. Apparently, it was forced to close for a time and it was recently reopened. It was a personal touch that conveyed to the audience the heritage and pride local folks take in this operation. The 3 hour play went by quickly with the inclusion of song, dance, and acting. It told the family story of what happens when we don't forgive and seek our own vengeance. The ending was a delightful surprise as they "gathered at the river." If it wasn't for the occasional use of strong language, I could wholeheartedly recommend this for the whole family.

The hills of West Virginia are alive with great plays, such as "The Rocket Boys, The Wizard of Oz, The Hatfields and McCoys". Located in Grandview State Park, bring a picnic and make it a day event, shows start at dusk, Rain or shine so dress accordingly.

This outdoor theater is a must see if you enjoy theater. Rocket Boys was enjoyable and priced right (use your AAA card for a discount). I gave it only 4 stars because the night I saw this there were some issues with the microphones and some dialogue was lost. Otherwise I cannot think of a more pleasant way to spend an evening.

Wife and I (seniors) paid $54.96 online for show tickets (general admission - sit wherever) and drove to West Virginia and stayed in nearby Charleston. On afternoon of performance, rainstorms made it impossible to drive to Beckley, let alone sit there until after 8 pm to find out if show was cancelled. We called from road and said they couldn't tell us if it would be cancelled until the intermission. Couldn't get there. Sent email. Got answer that we had to cancel 24 hours in advance (when it wasn't raining) and would not even give us a rain check, because show went on despite afternoon weather. At minimum wage these tickets cost eight hours of take home pay, and the rain check would have cost them nothing. Warning! Don't buy online and lose all your money!

My wife and I saw all three of the shows that were playing. They were very entertaining. The quality of the actors and actresses were a cut above most companies. The singing and dancing was outstanding. You can learn a lot about the history of the area which is another plus. They performed "Honey in the Rock", about how West Virginia became a state during the Civil War, "Hatfields & McCoys" which doesn't need explaining, and this year, "Wizard of Oz" , which had over 1000 people there the night we attended. A Broadway-quality show. Lights and sets were great. It was a joy to see so many kids there with their families.Good, wholesome entertainment. A must see!
