We spent three days rafting the Middle Fork of the Flathead River and will be back in kayaks. Great views and plenty of awesome spots for camping.

Went on a raft trip on this river in the summer of '93. Great place for some exciting whitewater. It just so happens that while we were on the river they were also filming part of the movie "The River Wild" with Meryl Streep, Kevin Bacon, and David Strathairn. In fact we had to stop our rafting trip for a few minutes while filming was taking place in the area where we were. Any other time we probably would have been a little bummed out doing this, but not this time and for the reason we had to stop. Kinda neat to be on the same river at the same time those three stars (among others) were filming. While there is no fee for the river itself, there is a fee for the whitewater trip.

From the north Glacier entrance the hwy follows the Middle Fork. Along the way there are fishing accesses that you can turn into and walk down to the river. The river has some of the clearest water and most beautiful river rocks...stop and take a look.

We watched a group of rafters negotiate the rocks and rapids down park of Middle Fork. The guides were able to move the rafts forward, sideways, and backwards as they knew the paths to take going down the rapids. The river was alive with fishermen at other points along the way. Wonderful view from Route 2 looking down.

Whether you are floating on it, fishing it, or sitting by it, the Middle Fork offers something for everyone. It usually reaches it's highest in June. For whitewater enthusiasts, July is a great time. August and September are perfect for mellower float trips or whitewater trips in a smaller boat (inflatable kayak).

ALWAYS a great place to spend a day or more... We float this river as often as our schedule will allow. Wildlife and water...
