The Custer County Art & Heritage Center has undergone a name change to the Waterworks Art Museum. The current exhibit - By Design: Wax, Woods & Welds is exciting. Stop in Miles City - spend a few Air-Conditioned hours strolling at your leisure through this exhibit - or spend the night in Miles City and spend even longer admiring the works of art!

The Miles City residents are good at re-purposing their buildings. The Custer County Art Center found a very nice home in the old city water works building, not far from the Ranger Riders Museum. I was pleasantly surprised at the artwork by Montana and northwestern artists. There was a nice variety of painting and three dimensional creations. I especially enjoys the whimsical characters created from wooden kitchen tools. There is a very nice permanent collection of photographs from early day Montana. Do stop in at the gift shop with its unique items. There is also a picnic area out front.

This is an impressive small museum with something for everyone who has any interest in either western art, art created in the west, or early western photography. We were there for the Year of the Horse exhibit, an eclectic display of horse-related art from all over the northern Great Plains and northern Rockies. The curators selected a mix of styles and media, from realism to abstract. If you're not into art but enjoy history of the area, the Huffman and Cameron photos are worth the trip. There is no admission fee, but please contribute what you can. This is a wonderful use of an old concrete building. Miles City and Custer County should be proud!

On a Sunday morning, we were the only ones there and they had partially closed one of the exhibit areas to change out an exhibit. However, the Hostess showed us a video about a pioneer woman who became a photographer. Her story was fascinating. Do go there if you pass through.

Unusual setting in the old water plant. The collection of photos by Lady Evelyn Cameron, L. A. Huffman and others was exceptional. Great little gift shop and a wildy diverse collection of Western art from modern acrylics to stunning bronzes (one of which is now ours). Friendly staff and the lovable resident dog - Fritz. Worth a visit and did I mention it's free?

we liked the film presentation and the friendly and knowledgable people there. The gift shop was a bit pricey but they need the revenue to pay the bills.

This is a nice art museum for eastern Montana. it is not too big, so visits should be less than an hour. Every September they have their art auction. Nice variety from oil and water paintings to sculptures from area artists.

Too much to see in a short time. Moving through can be a bit confusing. Good value and some of the giant scale dioramas are impressive. Very impressive for a small town.

This home-grown art gallery is a labor of love forged through the years by a dedicated group of people who care about infusing art into the Miles City community. The changing exhibits are always interesting, and the local art available for purchase in the small store is precious.

The building was interesting to see and while it doesn't take a long time to go through the exhibits, you will be glad you did!

This is an inspiring organization no matter what is on exhibit at the time. They have transformed the old city water plant into a beautiful art gallery and their headquarters. If it is summer time take a picnic lunch and eat in the park that is surrounding the Art Center.

this art center is a great example of what can be done with american imagination. this center was originally a water treatment plant that the huge concrete rooms have been transformed into the exibit areas for the featured artists. really a cool place to visit.
