My wife and I stopped here after touring the National Historic site - Lincoln's birthplace - just a couple miles from Hodgenville. President Lincoln's birthplace and boyhood home are just few miles apart in this area. The privately run museum was a much better experience that the national historic site, which has a decent video, but only a very limited museum section with no real artifacts from Lincoln. Even the log cabin is a reconstruction inside a memorial bldg. which looks out of place in this former farm land. The Lincoln Museum in town however gives a broad view of Lincoln's early life and his presindecy. It contains many artifacts, mainly newspaper printings, numerous life size dioramas taking you through each period of Lincoln's life including Mary Todd and children. The final dioramas are of the funeral train, which followed the same route that Lincoln took when he travelled from Illinois to the White House. There are two floors in the museum which is located right on the town square. The 2nd floor contained interesting and varied artwork of the Lincoln era, including many Lincoln portraits. The gift shop too has many worthwhile souvenirs of your visit at very reasonable prices. Entry fee is only $2/person.

Since I am a lifelong Chicago resident, Abraham Lincoln has importance in our great state. While driving back from Florida, we needed gas. We saw a sign which mentioned Abraham Lincoln's birthplace. So we got gas, and drove into town... We enjoyed the museum. Admission was $3 I think. There's plenty of pictures, diagrams, and information all over the museum, ranging from his birthplace, up until his death. Well worth an hour and a half of your time.

There's lots of history here but not many artifacts from Abe. There were things of that era and lots to look at and read. There is a very large shop of Lincoln items for sale. I'm glad I visited.

The Lincoln Museum in Hodgenville, KY, is a must stop when you are in the area to visit the National Park Service Abraham Lincoln Birthplace that is just a short drive from this museum. The museum building itself is on the National Register of Historic Places and houses a vast array of memorabilia and artifacts pertaining to the life of Lincoln. The first floor contains twelve life-like dioramas of the life and times of Lincoln from his early boyhood to his assassination at the Ford Theater. The upper level are the exhibits and memorabilia devoted to Lincoln’s lifetime. The museum is open daily and there is a very modest admission fee. The museum does close at 4:30 PM so you need to get there early enough to allow time to view all the displays.

This was a very thorough and well-done museum. It had many facts and a lot of historic replicas from Lincoln's documents. The wax figures kept scaring me because they looked so real!!! They also had an awesome gift shop. It was very fun and I would go again!

We were quite delighted by this small museum. It has a lot of information and artefacts from Abraham Lincoln's life along with well presented dioramas to illustrate key moments of his life. The staff were wonderfully welcoming and enthusiastic too, lovely to talk with.If you're in this area, you should visit this museum, for a negligible entrance fee you will have a fascinating time.

The museum is small, but informative and held my interest. Even the gift shop had unique/unusual items. The wax figures, dioramas, and artifacts were well done and thoroughly explained key events in Lincoln's life.

This small downtown museum added another perspective to my Lincoln history... Lots to see and friendly hometown folks to welcome and explain various displays.

The Lincoln Museum is 3 miles from the National Park and 6 miles from his Birthplace. The museum makes a good stop to get drenched in Lincoln history then go have a picnic at either of the other parks. The museum is full of information, artifacts, wax figures and has a fun gift shop for your souvenir purchase. Don't forget to check out the prints in the restrooms! Amazing! vacation ips

This museum is located in the town of Hodgensville, KY, which is about 3 miles from Lincoln's birthplace, and about 6 miles (in the other direction) from the boyhood farm to where Lincoln's family moved when Abraham was about 2 years old. There really aren't many original Lincoln relics at this museum, although there are non-Lincoln relics from the Lincoln/Civil War era. The one exception is a bronze Lincoln life-mask. The most memorable part of the museum is the several dioramas that contain life-sized wax figures of Lincoln--many of which look a lot like Lincoln (there are also good wax representations of Stephen Douglas, Robert E. Lee, and Ulysses S. Grant, but the wax representation of Mary Lincoln does not really resemble her at all). The admission price was only $3 per adult, so it was worth it if nothing else than to see the authentic-looking wax figures.

Very nice mix of exhibits, wax figure displays, paintings, quilts, historical artifacts, and other art pieces. We arrived at 3:35 expecting the museum to be open until 4:30. There was a sign on the door saying they would close at 4:00 that day. We decided to do it anyway as we knew we wouldn't be passing through again. As we were looking- the lady came to tell us that she called a few people and found someone to cover the last 1/2 hour so we wouldn't be as rushed. I was impressed with the pride in the museum and the committment to giving us a good experience. There is a nice gift shop. Our kids are 5, 9, and 13 and each found things in the museum that they liked. If you are in the area- it really is worth stopping at for an hour or so.
