After walking around the Shaker village we decieded to go for the boat ride. This was an interesting part of KY as it was very remote and very quite. The Captain was a hoot and told some very good storyies for almost an hour. You were able to see the high bridge built by the railroad and the Palisades were very different than what I expected. Nice ride.

This is a very relaxing, one hour ride up the Kentucky River. Comfortable, interesting and the Captain is very knowledgeable. The Palisades are ancient and amazing. And, if you are lucky like we were, you will also get to see some of the wild life around the river. We brought a picnic lunch, and afterwards enjoyed our lunch beside the river.

The Shaker Village has partnered with a company for two daily trips along the Kentucky River. Departing from a dock below the Village, the Dixie Belle is a comfortable boat to explore the waters of a river that crosses most of the state. From tall ledges to green mesas to overhanging trees, the scenery provides a backdrop to a relaxing hour-long trip. The old "port" was built by the Shakers for transporting their goods, crops and animals to other parts of the state for sale. It quickly became one of the biggest in the state. Now it is the home of the Dixie Belle and local fishermen. Tickets are available at the Village.

We visited the Dixie Belle on a sunny cool afternoon. The staff were very friendly. We went on an hour long ride and had a most enjoyable time. The narrator/captain was knowledgeable and explained what we were coming up on so we could get our cameras ready. The scenery was beautiful and everybody seemed to be having a good time. One thing that should be noted is that you can purchase the tickets directly on the boat or at Shaker's Village gift shop. Trips are at 2:00 and 4:00. Cost was $10 a person. Although it could be a little rough, there were a couple of people on the boat in wheelchairs, so you could say this was handicap accessible with a little help from the crew, who were more than happy to assist.

Mom, Dad, 20 yr old & 10 yr old... All had a great time! Went this past weekend, weather was great. Can go up top or sit in shade on main deck. They offer can drinks and snacks (candy/chips) on board. Does have a restroom but none of us used so I can't comment. However I can comment that the port-a-potty available before you board was so full of cleaning scent it was unbearable. Back to the boat... Would certainly recommend. The captain tells a lot of interesting facts while out and the trip is well worth the $.

The Dixie Belle is a cool diesel powered riverboat that takes hour long rides past the high bridge at Shaker's Landing. The narration is very interesting, and the scenery is one of a kind. They have a restroom but it's very small and once you step in you can hear the loud humming of the engine, so use the restroom before you get there. They sell good food, and I highly recommend this if you like riverboats and Kentucky Scenery.

I visited the Dixie Belle with my mom on a sunny Saturday afternoon. We happened to be driving by and noticed the sign "Riverboat" on the side of the road. We turned down the drive to find a sign indicating rides at 2:00 and 4:00. A quick google search led me to the Shaker Village website, where I learned that we could purchase tickets at the dock. The boat docks on the Kentucky River. Dixie Belle is a two story vessel with a paddle wheel and fluted smoke stacks. The captains navigating quarters are located on the top deck and a concession stand on the entry-level floor immediately below. The lower deck is arranged with tables and chairs. The upper deck is uncovered and has bench seating. The ride begins near the High Bridge and is narrated throughout. Keep your eyes peeled for passing trains and vast wildlife. We saw many types of birds (from cranes to vultures and beyond), turtles and fish. The boat travels several miles down the river before returning. A calm breeze helped keep us comfortable throughout the ride. Tickets are $10 each for adults. It is my suggestion that you line up early. Boarding begins approximately 10-15 minutes before departure. Because we were lined up early, we were able to score seats on the lower deck near the front of the vessel. This was a marvelous trip. My mom and I will definitely return. It was a very relaxing ride with great information regarding the area.

Great boat ride. Narrator gives a lot of information. We traveled under one of the highest train bridges in the country and a train crossed. The grandson loved that.

A ride on the Dixie Belle is a very relaxing way to spend an afternoon. I went on July 4th. It was anot really crowded and the scenery was wonderful. There were a lot of birds as well as other things to photograph. The whole trip made my photographers heart happy!

The Dixie Belle Riverboat Ride is a part of the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. It is a one hour cruise along the Kentucky River pallisades, which are beautiful. I enjoyed the portion of the cruise that passes under the High Bridge railroad bridge. The guide provided an interesting narration about this bridge. The ride is accessable, although access to the top deck requires climbing a narrow spiral staircase. Soft drinks and snacks are sold on-board and there are restrooms available on-board. This ride is a relaxing afternoon break during a day or afternoon of visiting the Shaker Village. Access to the cruise requires a short and beautiful drive from the Shaker Village parking lot. When you purchase tickets at the village for the ride, the sales people remind you to allow 1/2 hour to drive from the village to the boat dock. They aren't kidding about this. Allow yourself time for the short drive because it is along a narrow, winding road.
