Surprisingly, my son sad this was one of his favorite stops during our visit to Maine. It was a very nice little museum about the history of South Portland, which is quite a bit more interesting than you might think. The staff the day I visited was extremely informative and friendly.

We stumbled upon this museum quite by accident as we were looking for someplace to get a bottle of water following our visit to Bug Light and we were so glad we did. To look at the port in South Portland today, you wouldn't be able to tell that it used to be a huge WWII shipbuilding dock, but the photographs in this museum give you a very different view of that history. The displays were informative and the photographs were entirely enlightening. Best of all, the staff was very eager to share that history with us. They took the time to answer all of our questions and point out things we couldn't have even thought to ask. The Museum grounds are quite lovely and the building is historic in its own right. Add to all of this the souvenir shop and the drinks ($1.00) and we had a great visit.
