If you want to understand Mainers, you need to take in this museum. Plan 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. There is a DVD to see and lots to look at.

We visited the Logging Museum the last time we were in Rangeley. It is very interesting and informative. They continuing to add new exhibits every year. Some of the people involved in operating the museum are volunteers and their interest and care of the museum really shows.

Filled with logging memorabilia. Great, welcoming staff. Very accessible. Especially found the videos interesting and informative. The residents of Rangeley are fabulous at making you feel welcome and also about sharing suggestions for visits to points of interest that you might not find without an insiders help.

Whether you're into logging or not, an adult or child, this carefully crafted, researched and presented museum tells a remarkable story. Through artifacts, award winning photography and printed word, you're in for a unique immersion into the tools & trade of early North American forestry.

I was a recent past president of this museum and it has something for everyone that visits .... even a great play area for kids inside. In the last few years the total picture of this museum has changed and it is attracting 1400 visits in its normal open hours each summer: 11AM to 5PM Wednesday to Sunday. The walking trails are becoming a special addition to what is offer with a visit to the 72 acre site. The museum is accessible from water from the town of Rangeley as well across Haley pond. Checking the face book page and the web page of the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum (RLRLM) will give a great overview of the many activities and events that accure during the spring, summer and fall seasons.

For a small town museum, this place is packed with relics, stories and characters! What we thought would be a reasonably brief, summarized tour, turned in to nearly 2 hours of interesting information, personal tales and stories that enabled us to glimpse into the 'olden day' life of a logger in Maine. The guide for the museum, Ron Haines was knowledgeable and witty. His family connections to the area dated back many generations, and his ability to entertain as well as inform, was captivating and we found ourselves along with another dozen or so visitors to the Museum, quite unwilling to leave. The Museum committee and their team of volunteers have really created something to be proud of and it seems there are lots of plans for future expansion. Not only can you drive or walk there from the town, but there is access to the museum from walking trails and even a canoe and kayak landing. Free entry but a donation is much appreciated and well worth it when you consider all the work that goes on in places such as these. Especially when you consider they can't open through the winter months.

We spent a week at the Rangeley Lakes Resort for our vacation. While there we picked up a pamphlet about this logging museum and decided to go. Glad we did! The lady there was fantastic and very passionate about the history of the museum. Both my boyfriend and I come from a "woods" background with our fathers working in the industry. We were amazed at the items on display but also the write-ups, etc that went along with it. If you don't go you're missing out on a vast amount of history not only for the area but Maine in general.

We stopped in on a rainy day shopping excursion. It was very interesting to see the tools that were used for logging in years past. They have an excellent collection of chain saws from the first powered saws, to the modern saws of today. Very interesting and worth the time!

It brings you back a step in time when men were men and the work was hard and they could move mountains when you threw in a couple of good horse teams!! You can actually feel what it was like as they have the camps set up as if you werre there getting ready to head out with your axe or a first of a kind chain saw which some being 2 man and unbelievable in weight!!Absolutely a job well done!God Bless,

Visiting the museum takes you back to the days of honest hard working folks without all the modern tools of todays logging operations. Very informative.
