Visited Reid State Park in August of 2014. It's everything a beach should be peaceful, relaxing and beautiful. Can't wait to go back in 2015.

Whether you are working on your tan or want to try out your biking or hiking legs, this is the place for you! The beauty of this park can not be overstated. The first day we biked a mile or two down a paved road that doesn't allow cars. There were ocean views, woods with side trails (some only for walking) and lovely ponds to stop beside. We made it to a stretch of beach that had lots of sand but also had Maine's famous granite outcroppings to wander over and around. I am almost 60 and do not usually ride my bike back home. I was able to get to ride all the way to the beach. On the way back I did have to get off twice to walk up small hills. The next day we drove to the main part of the beach. There were paths to wander down, rocks to climb, and of course the beach to wander. We did all that and enjoyed it tremendously.I highly recommend you not miss this gem of a park hiding on an island, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Smell the salt air and feel the sea breezes. The ocean is cold but if you want to go for a swim, jump in the ocean and run over to the lagoon and it will be nice and warm.

I was pleasantly surprised to find such a pretty spot close to home. Wish I'd known about it at the beginning of the summer. I'll be spending a lot of time there next year. The mile long beach is the prettiest part. The rest rooms were clean. Retired veterans get in free.

Wonderful tide pools and swimming along the tidal rivers. Very beautiful beaches, one is a mile long and the other 1/2 mile. Dog friendly as long as they are leashed.

We relaxed and walked along the shore and the beach. Wish we had more time to meander through all the trails!

Well maintained and staffed, this is a top notch beach. The water was superb in mid August. We were able to swim for forty five minutes in the warm (for Maine) water. Right up there with Roque Bluffs on my list of Maine beaches.

Gorgeous beaches, easily walkable, uncrowded. Grab a picnic and head to the park, its a perfect way to spend a day on Georgetown Island! The only annoyance are the green headed flies, but they were not so bad in July. That may be the perfect month to visit!

This was my first stop on the first day of my trip to Maine. I heard the ocean before I saw it. Huge crashing waves. The sound was magical. There were 2 workers maintaining the grounds and they did quite well since it was very clean. I watched the boarders for a while. And then.... that was it. I planned on spending a good part of the day there and I spent 45 minutes. Nobody besides a few boarders was there. Concessions closed. Hefty entrance fee. I was disppointed.

Standing on the edge.holding my 3 yr old grandson's hand. A wave came up and pulled us under. Every time I tried to get my balance a wave pulled us back down.I did not let go of my grandson's hand. I screamed for my friend to come and get my grandson. She did. I continued to try to get up but couldn't. I was afraid I was going to drown. I am an experienced swimmer but due to my bad knee I was truly afraid for my life. 2 women who heard me screaming for help came and assisted me out of the water. I will be ever so grateful to them. I did not see a life guard in site. Not a good thing. Someone later told met there are signs posted not to stand near the edge. I did not see any. Please head my warning.

Two really nice beaches separated by large rock formation that the grandsons love playing on. Water pretty cold but tidal pools warm and fun. A lone seal came to within 12 or so feet from shore and entertained us for about 10 minutes. Grandkids loved it. Very scenic place, plenty of picnic tables, and very good bathroom and changing facilities.

I have been to this beach so many times but will review my last experience:I took my six daughters there in August 2014. There are two "places" to go at the beach "Giffords Head" and "Half Mile Beach". I prefer Half Mile Beach. **NOTE SNACK BAR CLOSED 2014** Couldn't believe it - there is nowhere to get food close to this beach - and then I found a hidden gem in Georgetown Maine. coming out of the park take a left onto the "main road" about 2 miles on your left is a beautiful gourmet food/cheese/wine/fresh maine fruit/meats/homemade desserts/"made in maine" sodas stand. I am so excited the greasy spoon food bar is closed. You will not be disappointed in this place - good by greasy spoon Reid State Park food bar - Never Again.Now, At half mile beach the surf is much more intense - great for boogie boarding and there were definitely surfable waves when we went although this is not the norm. Half mile is always a little less crowded and a little more local - as in people from Maine generally hang out there. Also, a great place to find sand dollars. My girls found three looking for about a half hour. A quick of walk of well a half a mile will bring you to the other side of the beach that tends to lend itself to foreigners and people who want to walk on the rocks. There are rocks at the end and if you go over them you will see beautiful tide pools and islands that you can get to easily in low tide. There are warmer ponds that are great for littles to experience.There is also a calm salt water lagoon that I would never let my kids swim in but everyone else seems okay with. I was raised with the notion stagnant water is bad. And the murky warm salty feeling is kinda gross to me. Plus - the area isn't nice and sandy like the beach area. Pests: Beware of the seagulls, if you have a bag with food alone they will peck it and eat your foodGreen Flies - I just love the people who write "this beach has green flies" - every beach in Maine has greenies - here is what to do. The first time you put your ankles in the water they will visit you and try to bite you ankles, what I have found is they are very slow and if you kill the first one none others will come. We were at Reid for 6 hours and ended up with two fly bites between all seven of us. Half mile beach has more flies FYI

Went to tons of nice places in Maine and New England. This was my least favorite. We paid about $20 to get into the park and stayed about 30 minutes. Take bug spray.

This is a beautiful state park with two beaches: Half Mile beach and One Mile Beach. While the view was spectacular, we visited in August, and the bugs were unbearable. It was almost impossible t sit on the beach. I would suggest lots of bug spray before going!

We were in Maine on vacation and wanted to visit this beach based on a friend's recommendation. We went on a cloudy day, there was 30% chance rain predicted. We noticed right off the many picnic tables and the beautiful rocky shoreline. It was very scenic and doubtless a great place to take photographs. There was also a cute little lagoon. Unfortunately, there were huge waves crashing on the beach itself and the posted sign said no floaties or life preservers of any kind were allowed. ?? There was a lifeguard there but there was no way I would allow my 4 yr old to go into that surf without a life jacket. Despite this, we set up a blanket and chairs and figured we'd make the most of it. Unfortunately there were just too many flies around and they were biting us, resulting in good quarter sized welts on my legs and back. We packed it up after 45 minutes and the girl at the booth was kind enough to give us a refund. We drove about 30 minutes to get to Popham Beach which was infinitely more kid friendly and had hardly any flies! I would check out Reid State Park again, just armed with bug spray and maybe when the kids are a bit older!
