If you stop in at one of the small museums around town you can find out when there will be something happening at the battlefield. Don't expect anything like Gettysburg or Little Big Horn, but at least once a summer they have a few re-enactors come through, which is pretty great for kids.

This is a well kept battlefield with various plaques explaining what occurred at each area of the battlefield. Very nice for a quiet walk.

The location was ideal for outdoor wedding. Views spectacular, in walking distance to hotel and local sites.

Very interesting battlefield from the war of 1812. Not long and involved site, but a very nice walk. The views of the lake and the harbor are nice from the shoreline.

We were not able to go inside the buildings on site as they were closed for the season (we were there after Labor day), but there are nice, large signs on the property which describe the historical events and facts about the buildings and grounds. There is a sturdy path to walk that leads to an awesome view of Lake Ontario. There is also a large lawn area with beautiful trees where you can walk. The history of the battle that took place here was very interesting. I highly recommend a visit to the site.

Take a walk around the battlefield and parade ground during the changing of the leaves. Hit goodfellas for a fabulous Italian gourmet dinner and save room for the ice cream stand for dessert. Just another day in paradise!

This town is amazing. It has beauty, history and GREAT eating places. And NO that isn't Canada just across the way!

We visited here on Tuesday, August 19th. It was a beautiful sunny day and we enjoyed the walk on the interpretive trail around the park, reading the signs as we went and enjoying the views. I don't like to carry a lot when I am walking and most parks have drinking fountains somewhere on the premises, so I did not have a bottle of water with me. Be warned! There is not a drinking fountain in site anywhere at this park, including at the restrooms! We came away having thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, but I was so thirsty and now sunburned from no shade for most of the walk, that when the ranger told me they did not have any water available at the historic Commandant's and Lieutenant's houses and there were no costumed interpreters that day either, we did not pay to go into those, but rather left to go find something to drink somewhere.

Scenic views, interpretive signs, well maintained .Excellent Visitor Center, charming town. Feels like its back in the nineteen fifties.

I spend 2 weeks in Watertown, NY conducting training on Fort Drum. While there, I took the time to see the sites and Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site made the trip to NY worth it. Walking the town and battlefield was amazing. The old buildings of the era and the layout of the various forts that were emplaced to defend the northern shores, along with the vinnettes explaining the activities during the War of 1812 was awesome. took many, many pictures of my travel there.

We liked reading about what happened there, and it is beautiful to say the least. It isn't the kind of place to go out of your way to go to, go because you are there. We had been to Fort Ontario earlier so this was nothing in comparison, but did make some connections. Great place for photographs with the flowers and water for a backdrop.

The site is an easy walk has a lot of signs to explain what happened there. There's also a home and outbuildings, a heritage garden and a display showing the uniforms worn by military players during the time of the War of 1812.

Walking around the battlefield and visiting the buildings is a peaceful experience. Battlefield is right on the lake and scenery is gorgeous.

Just a nice place to take a walk. There are some interesting placards with historical information. Museums were closed on Monday, so it was just self-guided strolling. Very nice, though!

Peaceful and panoramic view of the Harbor and Lake....easily accessible and ample parking. See Zebulon Pike's (Pike's Peak) grave and enjoy a stroll along the water.
