Thanks Tripadvisor for listing this fabulous Museum, I have lived in the area all my life and did not know this treasure was so close. We made a field trip out of the Museum with children from K- 12 and were delighted with the whole experience. We will definitely return in the spring to see the outdoor sculpture and make our way through the museum again. Excellent tour with Margaret and Michael , kids were captivated and really had a great time learning and sketching- highly recommend a visit.

Vassar's art center will be a find for many art-lovers: an excellent, small, free museum of surprising breadth and quality. Some of the top names of the 20th century are here (Picasso, de Kooning, Calder, Bacon, O'Keeffe, Matisse, Chagall), but so are asian antiquities, early photography, and a whole section devoted to the Hudson River school. Give yourself extra time to stroll the campus and poke your head into the neighboring chapel, with windows by the studio of Louis Comfort Tiffany.

Vassar college is a beautiful campus with diverse architectural buildings. The art center has a great collection.

We had no idea that works of Van Gogh and artists of similar merit were on display, (at no cost!) so locally. Small but impressive, well-loved and well-maintained, this art center is well worth a visit. Preceded or followed by a walk around the gorgeous Vassar College campus, and with a couple of excellent cafes right next door on Collegeview and Raymond Ave, this offers an immensely artistically satiating experience.

The art center itself is of modern architecture and looks great juxtaposed to Vassar's beautiful traditional campus. So many interesting works of art, from hundreds of years ago to the present, something for everyone, an eclectic collection. We had a great afternoon taking our time strolling through the art center.

When traveling I always like to walk college campuses. Vassar is beautiful, and their art museum is stellar. Significant breadth of content, helpful docents, photos allowed, and a website of downloadable images. A great way to spend a few hours!

The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie NY is a lot more than a teaching museum. Housed in a 36,000 sq ft circa 1993 César Pelli building, the Art Center exhibits a rotating selection of over 19,000 works of art.The "Project Gallery" displays works of art requested by faculty members for their classes. A dozen or so other galleries showcase art from the permanent collection, which runs from antiquity to the present. The galleries hold about 350 pieces. We were happy to find works by well-known artists, including both recognizable and offbeat works. For example, we enjoyed both signature pieces by Henry Moore, and uncharacteristic small sculptures. We also made some exciting new friends. We think the Art Center at Vassar ranks among the top regional art museums in the States. The collection is broad and deep. The exhibits are intuitive, tasteful and appealing. The curating is informative but unobtrusive. The Art Center is open to the public and admission is free. Street and campus parking is available near the museum. The museum's personnel are helpful and engaged. On the day we visited, the "security guard" gave us good directions, but also pointed out exceptional exhibits. And he made sure we knew about the exceptional outdoor sculpture garden, which was the icing on the cake of our visit.

My husband and I decided to visit the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center based on the positive Tripadvisor reviews and excellent ratings! We were not disappointed! It was certainly a fun and enlightening thing to do! If you're into art, this place will amaze! It's a small museum but packs a lot of punch! It was amazing to see art from such renowned artists as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Édouard Vuillard, and so many other greats in such a small space!Seems everyone who works here has been trained in the Arts and are quite knowledgeable about the artists and the pieces and even about the painted scenes. Even the security guard pointed out interesting facts to us on a few paintings! We were very impressed! My favorite pieces were the Veiled Woman terracotta sculpture and paintings by Carl Frederik Aagaard, Hubert Robert and Pieter Claesz. We particularly found the Hudson River School exhibit enlightening as first-time visitors to the area. We had been on a Hudson River cruise just earlier the same day and it was great (and highly coincidental) to see the collection of beautiful paintings here depicting the river, life along the banks and stunning Hudson River Valley scenery! There were some gift items available for sale at the entrance. I purchased some postcards, greeting cards and two posters. We got chatting with the lovely lady at the desk and when we told her we were traveling back to the Caribbean, she kindly offered to go in search of a tube to wrap the posters up for me to safely travel with them. Thanks to Francine, my posters arrived home in perfect condition! Out of all the attractions we visited during our stay, this one certainly ranked first on our list! There was a great vibe in the building (not stuffy or sterile like some art museums), lovely staff, fantastic art and to top it all off….entry was free! What’s not to love?!

We visited here one Friday afternoon earlier this month. Definitely worth a little time to check out the variety of art on display.

An impressive gallery in sleepy Poughkeepsie. The gallery is free to the public and you can easily spend an afternoon viewing the permanent exhibits in addition to the visiting exhibits. I've never experienced a crowd which makes the experience that much better.

We went to a lecture at the Art Center and it was spacious. Staff was friendly, I recommend visiting for the content and the grounds of this nice University.

The museum is small, however the collection is grand! Works by 20th century masters plus a collection of Hudson River School artists.

You are overwhelmed by the amazing collection in this small, free museum on the campus of beautiful Vassar College. Different rooms with different periods of art from religious; Hudson River; pop art; modern. Major artists including Calder, Okeefe, Picasso, Dali, Stella to name only a few. Christina, a docent, gave a very interesting tour. The museum is closed on Mondays and is open late on Thursdays.

A visit to the Vassar campus and the Powerhouse Theatre is always rewarding. It gives us an opportunity to see many plays in development before they later appear on Broadway and off-Broadway stages. Significant playwrights including John Patrick Shanley (who debuted his Pulitzer-Prize winning play, Doubt, at Powerhouse) bring their works to the Vassar campus. A little known fact is that you can stay at the Vassar Alumnae House, within walking distance of the theatre, if you are attending an event there.

A hidden jewel. Rembrandt, Breughel the younger, Jackson Pollock, Lichtenstein, Georgia O'Keeffe, etc. This is a fascinating smorgasbord of stellar artwork. It was also nice to stroll the beautiful Quad at Vassar.
