Overrated surfers beach. Use to be one of the better beaches for locals many years ago. Now, just an overrated beach for surfer dudes. Beach has been washed out by bad storms over the pass two decades. What beach that is left is sand trucked in every year at the tax payers expense to please a high percentage of those using the beach who are not even residents or taxpayers who do not foot the bill.If you like laying on top of each other, than this is the beach for you. Let's face the facts, Montauk has become over crowded with hipsters who pay no taxes or own property in Montauk. Once a family atmosphere and reasonably priced motel rooms and restaurants. Now, every man for himself, charge what you can get and don't worry. Like in the days of crusades. Ones season rolls in, it's rape and pilvrig the invaders. Take all their cash and women and children.Parking is limited unless you have a town of East Hampton Parking Sticker. If not, be prepared to pay a stiff fine for parking illegally. I have seen those who don't care park and walk away knowing the ticket will be there when returning. This is the mindset and clientele dealing with, it's all about me group A-1 types. There are much nicer beaches along the Montauk shoreline, but parking again is limited. The pass 2-3 years beaches have continued to be more and more crowded. So do yourself a favor stay home, and let us locals dwell in our own misery we don't need anyone's help.

I liked the beach, ocean and shorebirds and the land birds that find shelter there. I will add Fort Pond. I am disappointed that hunting is allowed there. Many species are disappearing. Canvasbacks are seriously declining, and yet hunting persisits. Scoters are also experiencing problems. NO ONE MONITORS to see if quotas of killings are exceeded. Also, sometimes hunters shoot to close to the shore at Montauk Point. I would like to see strong, educational programs in Montauk about nature and conservation, including birds as well as seals, etc.

This is not a friendly beach, the locals make it clear if your a visitor you should know your place. It is a nice little beach, with a cute refreshment van. It looks like a great surfer beach but I'm not to sure you'd be to welcome to surf if your not and or a local or very good. When we were there we saw a guy go out on is his board spear a stinger and leave it to die slowly and painfully in the sun. He was aggressive when questioned by tourist about it telling her 'he's a local and can do what he wants.' When I asked in the village if it was ok, they said no. So maybe I just was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

BEAUTIFUL!!! Went down Ditch Plains Road and caught the beach down a side roach. Several side roads lead straight to the beach. Best spot was near these rocks. Waves were awesome and the morning sun shines down so warm and nice.

We drove to Ditch Plains Sunday morning to watch the ocean. It was cool and breezy and the waves higher and wilder than usual due to the hurricane off of Bermuda. We were treated to a show of about 2 dozen surfers bobbing and riding the waves. A delighful morning.

We love to walk to the ditch to watch the surfers. We really hope that the new owners of the East Deck don't discourage the surfers from coming there.

This is a great beach for anything you want it to be from surfing to relaxing. If you don't surf, it a fun place to watch some awesome ( and not so awesome) surfers.

Had a ton of fun at this great beach! Lots of waves that helped with my first surfing lesson through Corey's Wave!

Surfed here as a kid and the beach is still amazing. Beach plums in dunes, beautiful beach and cliffs. Just to spend an afternoon on the beach in the water and watching the surfers re-living my youth makes me feel great. Love the morning mist and the crash of the breakers onto the rocks.

You don't have to drive all the way to the cape to enjoy the beach. just love it here and the waves are just high enough to surf comfortably. Beautiful view and great location.

Great beach. We rented a house nearby and walked each day, all week. Water was beautiful. Played lots of frisbee. Busier on the weekends, but very nice in late afternoons. Even when crowded, didn't feel it. Food trucks in parking lots are expensive, but easy way to eat.

The beach has almost entirely recovered from the last hurricane, and it's a great spot to spend an afternoon reading, sunbathing, swimming, boogie boarding, surfcasting, surfing, or just watching the surfers. (Late afternoon is our favorite time.) There are a couple snack wagons with drinks and sandwiches near the simple restrooms and showers. The water's bracing (gets up to about 70 degrees at its hottest in August), and the current can be strong, but there are lifeguards. One of the best experiences any time of year is walking down along the beach to the Hoodoos. There's a couple spots to get up to the high bluffs, from which you can follow the trail and watch for wildflowers and look down at the water. At the western end of the trail, there's an informational sign about the geology of the area. Alternatively, walk along the beach and look up at the bluffs to see the amazing patterns made by erosion. In the winter, there are usually one or two crazy kitesurfers flying up out of the water with amazing jumps. Fun year-round. Just be careful about parking--the lot is for residents only, or the fine is $150, and they do enforce it during the summer. (Taxi or bike recommended from town.) For those with limited mobility, it's much easier to get to this beach than to Kirk Beach in town, since the walk from the parking lot to the sand is a gentle incline rather than having to climb up over the dunes. Great spot.

You must have a resident's pass to park or have someone drop you off for a few hours to watch the surfer's master the waves at this iconic beach.

Beach was not super crowded. Water was cool but refreshing. We watched some surfers paddle boarders. The beach was clean, water clear. Just classic.
