Unfortunately, the Senate House--regardless of its historical importance--is not on my "must see" list of historic sites in the Hudson Valley. Although Kingston was New York's first capital and the house itself where the Senate met, one can more easily and accurately get that information online rather than on a tour. The guides--when they are there--mean well, but they are poorly trained both in terms of the house and the period, and insist on perpetuating historical myths that have long been busted (windows were NOT taxed, neither were closets). So stop by to look at the much altered and refurbished building but you can pass on seeing the interior unless they take a dramatically different approach to its interpretation.

its a something to do that wont take very long and you can find out a little more about the history of Kingston and NYS. there are also picnic tables to sit down at and have something to eat underneath some trees to provide shade.

This is short but very historic tour of the first capitol of the State of New York during the Revolutionary War. A nice place to take children with an interest in such things. This so but the tour can be as long as you want it to last. The building is very well maintained an is period correct.

The roots of an American Revolution and the halls my ancestors roamed. It sent chills up my spine. Like most historic locations it was human-scaled and charming. The lovely garden. Buildings at a friendly scale made with local, natural materials that age with grace and dignity. The tour was short and interesting, perhaps a bit too short. Good for kids!

Many John Vanderlyn Hudson River School of paintings and other historic paintings for close viewing. Museum is two floors with many artifacts important to the early founding of NY government.

This site is brimming with amazing historical artifacts. A guided tour is even better! The grounds are well kept and many wedding parties come for their photo shoots. Additional tours are just around the corner from the Fred Museum to the Wiltwyck walking tour. Hey, it's so awesome several years ago Hillary Clinton got the tour.

The Senate House is the site of the first Capital of New York State. The British burned the city of Kingston and the Capital moved to Albany NY. Great Museum and lots of historic paintings too.

the tour guides were very informative and really knew what they were talking about. They have nice gardens outside and the landscaping is just wonderful. It was a lot of fun visiting here since kingston was the first capitol of NY
