I had a very poor experience with the Blue Mountain Ski Resort. They promote that the lift tickets are cheaper if you buy online "faster and save money", however their website was down for over 24 hours so I couldn't buy them online. During that process, I also called their customer service number and was on hold for over an hour, and once I got through, the person hung up on me before I was finished asking all my questions about their different lift tickets. After this, I decided to drive there and buy the tickets in person. I discussed with the ticket salesmen what happened online and over the phone and they apologized but didn't even offer me the online price. I decided to make a formal complaint, because at this point I wasted about 4 hours on a Saturday dealing with the website, the phone calls, and waiting in line. The sales rep brought me to the managers desk, who was obviously trying to rush me through the process. Also, I was being yelled at by a very angry and bitter middle aged women behind me (this is not Blue Mt's fault, but at the same time the manager didn't ask her once to please stop). The manager finally offered me the online price, but the online deal was for 8 hours, and at this point I couldn't even get 8 hours worth of riding in. So I told the manager you have to offer me more so I have some reason to believe you want me back, because it seems like you are just taking advantage of me. The manager said no one was available to offer me something more.I finished my complaint and received an email from "Dave" who was a director of some kind on the Mt. He said to please call him and explain and what happened. I called (he didn't answer) and I left him a message going briefly into what happened but I'd prefer to discuss it with him.He never called me back.Overall, I will never go back there. 1, the customer service rep on the phone was not knowledgeable of their products and was rude. 2, the sales rep was not informed that they could offer me the online price. 3, the manager was very pushy and didn't even want me to submit my complaint. And finally, all this combined shows me their communication is very poor.

This is a steep hike for about 2.5 miles to the top of Blue Mountain. But we're in our 60s and don't work out, and we made it eventually. And boy, was it worth it! Went during peak leaf season. Only one or two views on the hike, but at the top - exquisite. Climb to the top of the fire tower for a 360 degree view of the Adirondack Mts. all around, and up north, on a clear day, the high peaks. Unforgettable. Definitely worth it, even thought the hike down was harder (on the knees) than the hike up.

This is not an easy climb so be prepared to do the equivalent of a high peak in the park (just short of qualifying). Access is easy but you start climbing right away. Lots of verticality up an eroded and wet trail in a short distance, so do on a dry day after a previous dry day (yeah good luck with that!). The view on top and from the fire tower is great, although you don't have context of other high mountains near by. The cell tower on the mountain is quite distracting to me. Not recommended for small children or adults with stamina or balance issues.

I love looking at nature's sights and when you reached the top, it was gorgeous. I love hiking on it and love the beautiful sights around and on it.

This is one of our fave things to do if we go camping at ADK every year. The friends of Blue Mountain Lake keep up with the trail. In the past couple summer, they even hired a college student to live 5 days a week on a cabin on the top of the mountain. He is more like a free tour guide. There are two actual trails. the popular one starts nearby Blue Mountain Museum, the other one starts somewhere in Long Lake, a longer hike of 12 miles (I believe they don't maintain the trail, we never hike this trail ever)It is about 4 miles hike (the trail markers go up to #13 or 14). 2/3 of the hike was a regular stone stepping. The 1/3 is more challenging, more like stone slabs terrain. Please walk slow, avoid some wet areas. Hike with a walking stick is recommended. Bring your dog with you too.Close to the top you will be rewarded with a view of some of the lakes (our rest break). When you see the trees get shorter and more pine trees around, you know you will not too far from the top. Climb to the fire tower, it was amazing view. Walk to the other side (near the guide's cabin), you will see the other side of the mountain. The guide said that a flat concrete on the top was a heli pad (?)If you are a Verizon or AT & T customer, you can make a phone call there, there is a phone tower on the top. Please bring some TP with you, just in case you need to go. There is no bathroom anywhere on the way or on the top.

A beautiful, clean lake nestled in the Adirondack Mountains offers swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, and kayaking in a natural setting. The water is cold, but invigorating . It is a deep lake and can appear like flat, black glass one day and waving gray/blue water the next.

Beautiful place to kayak, canoe or SUP. Many great hikes- Castle Rock and the Fire Tower at the top of Blue Mountain are great choices.

Although, this is not technically one of the high peaks, it comes within a couple of hundred feet of qualifying. It's a great hike, with rocky outcrops, and a fire tower at the top. Would only recommend for children of 6 years old or up that enjoy hiking. It's about 2-3 hours each way.

Blue Mtn Lake is the most beautiful lake in the Adirondacks. The moderate hike up to Castle Rock gives the most incredible view!

If you are looking for relaxation - this is it!!! Small town, small town feel. No shopping centers - not even a Walmart. Small nice restaurants - no McDonald's. All depends on what one wants.

DO NOT attempt in the rain or if there is more than a 20% chance of rain. You will either be sliding down 1/2 mile of steeply pitched granite slabs on your butt, or you will crawling up them on your hands and knees. That said, in dry conditions, this is one of the best hikes in the area. The terrain is challenging - you are either rock hopping giant boulders or running up very steep granite slabs. Make sure the soles on your shoes have good grip. Poles may be helpful for people with bad knees, weak quads & glutes, or bad balance. The fire tower at the top is a must for the best views, and not as scary as some (35 feet as opposed to the 60 at Goodnow Mountain). At the summit are some great open slabs to have lunch, and in late August it's swarming with dragonflies which is pretty magical.4 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 1560 feet. It took me 2.5 hours to get to the top and 1.5 to get back down.

I have done a bunch of the "high peaks" in the ADK. Blue mountain is not considered one of them, but I have to say that the difficulty level of this one surpases most of the high peaks I have done. The path is unusual, and is more like a dried up stream bed. Very rocky, and slippery in spots. It gives the trail charecter, and you definately wont be bored on your treck. The view at the top was not too bad. Like someone else already mentioned, you can get a better or equal view from an easier hike. I wouldnt hike this mountain just for the view, thats certain, and the fire tower at the top is not the safest feeling structure in the world. The hike is challenging, but fun, with an average view. Careful on your way back down, those smooth rock surfaces can be tricky!

A beautiful lake and mountain in a beautiful setting.

If you like to sweat hiking, this mountain is for you. The view from the top of the fire tower is expansive. And this is all I can say. There is no special beauty. It is average view that you can get from the top of the much lower hill. (This is my opinion. May be because it was cloudy, gray day.) Anyway don’t go for the view, much easier walk (Castle Rock) in this area will reward you with beautiful views of Blue Mountain Lake and its ilands. Also try Chimney Mtn., around 12 miles from Indian Lake city. (I believe take road 4 south off road 28 past the city) Back to Blue Mountain. The hike itself is wonderful. (Was at the end of August. No flies) Start early when it is not too hot. Trail begins in the forest with tall trees. Jump from one boulder to another or walk through the maze of tree roots. The farther you go the steeper ascend is. Close to the top notice that the trees shorten 2-3 times. Most of the second part of the trail is polished rock with moderate grade. When you notice small clearing on the left and can see partially abstracted by tries valley, you are almost there. May take a picture. (On the way back you may not want to stop.) You will need to go up the fire tower to get some view.It took around 1hr. 40 min to get to the top with 7 year old. Way back was 30 min less. Good book describing the Adirondack region trails and directions is:“Longstreet Highroad Guide to the New York Adirondacks” by Phil Brown. The composition of the book is a little confusing (need to know the region names), but at he end of the trip got accustomed to it.Also “Adirondack Great Walks & Day Hikes” is good help. You can download it from VisitAdirondacks.com website (http://visitadirondacks.com/brochure-request.html?) or get hard copy in the city's information centers.

Though I don't know what the total ascent is, it wasn't an easy hike (Cascade Mountain (4000+ ft) during the winter was easier, believe it or not).View was as good as Cascade, and it was a very beautiful day. Black flies owned the summit, so don't plan on staying up there too long. I took photos from the fire tower, got some gatorade in my gut, and heading right back down. The bugs were really that bad. One lady on her way down mumbled something to the effect: "They're eating Deet for dinner up there." She wasn't lying. Probably a hike I'd like to do on a warm spring day (no bugs), as most of the trail is rock face and (I heard) clear during the late winter/spring.
