the historic beckwith ranch

As you can tell from the pictures, this is a series of buildings just off CO-69. They have been restored but you can't go in and see the interiors of the buildings unless there is an event going on (don't crash someone else's wedding though). Nice views of the mountains. There is a pond just north of it where you can catch good reflections when the water is still. Worth the five minutes to read the historical marker. Look for antelope herd on the other side of the road too.

My husband and I found the historic 1880 Beckwith Ranch by accident as we were driving near Westcliffe, CO. The structures, including the main house, are being restored and nearly finished. We were not able to tour the inside but we walked around the outside of the buildings. We took about 20 minutes visiting the beautiful ranch. There is no cost at this time.

Reading about the history of the ranch gives a glimpse of what this valley looked like a 100 years ago. Over 7000 head of cattle with some English gents doing the tending, Beckwith Ranch must have been something in its day. The house and buildings are being lovingly restored and plays host to weddings and special events. No inside access when we visited but looking in through the wavy old glass shows what a showpiece this ranch once was.

Die Gebr. Beckwith siedelten sich hier 1874 an und unterhielten eine der größten Viehherden.Eine Gruppe von Freiwilligen hatte in den letzten Jahren die Restaurierung der Gebäude übernommen. Als wir die Ranch 2007 entdeckten waren wir total begeistert. Ende April 2012 nahmen wir einen kleinen Umweg in Kauf, um die Ranch erneut zu besuchen. Wie schon zuvor war auch dieses Mal keiner dort anwesend, so dass nur die Besichtigung der Aussenanlage möglich war. Fast sieht es so aus, als wären die Arbeiten eingestellt. Das wunderschöne Herrenhaus weist bereits etliche Schäden auf.Es lohnt sich, der Ranch einen Besuch abzustatten. Mit den weißen Gebäuden und den leuchtend roten Dächern bietet sie vor den Bergen eine traumhafte Kulisse für jeden Besucher und vor allem für Fotografen.
