Fort Vasquez wasn't a military fort. It did have a protective perimeter wall with look out ports, but was for traders, blacksmith, food preparation. Native Americans would bring their buffalo and other hides in to exchange for implements, beads, etc. Trappers would get supplies as would travelers passing through. Its history is interesting, how the site was discovered. There are some Native American garb, etc displays inside. Very worthwhile for a brief visit. $2. admission.
