    1. View from afar. You can see Pikes Peak from 150+ miles away. It is visible from almost every corner of Colorado Springs, but also Denver and points north. More fun when it is snow capped, 8 months or more a year. The upper reaches are far beyond the treeline.2. Take the cog railroad what is an almost all day round trip. You are likely to see wildlife in the National Forest surrounding the mountain. Its easy. You can reward yourself with a hot chocolate at the top.3. Drive the partially paved, partially gravel road to the summit. Imagine a road with no guard rails and consider that in mid summer, there is a race to the top for many different kinds of vehicles. Mandatory stop on the way down to check for overheating and potentially dangerous brakes. This trip is very scenic. You get to 14,000 ft. Of course, its best to go early as hail and thunderstorms can make your visit at the peak short. PS: If you see the locals heading to shelter, it may be because of lighting which has struck folks above the treeline. One many days you can be looking down a clouds. Visitors should ask folks at their hotel or restaurants "is this a good day to drive to the top". Road closes in the winter when the snow piles up.4. Walk to the top! Start at the crack of dawn if you really think you can climb two miles up and tolerate 40% of the sea level oxygen!5. This may sound nuts, but there is actually a marathon that runs up a very narrow mountain trail to the top. That's only the half way point. Medical staff then evaluate if they will let you turn around and run down for the second half. This is a brutal marathon. If you live at sea level, "forget about it!". Which every method you choose (and doing more than one might suit you) you will have a great experience. No, I have not run up the mountain. I have enough issues with the cog rail road, and road to the top. Do not minimize the oxygen issue. If you are past the age of 50, it will effect you much more than if you are in your 20s. If you bend down to tie a shoelace, you may get the black swirlies standing up. Folks often come down off the mountain saying they just need to rest a bit and end up sleeping through the night. PS: Protection from UV rays, taking drinking water, and a high SPF sun screen are a must.

We took the cog train up Pikes Peak. I can't believe how long I've lived in Colorado and haven't done this. I know people think of this as a summer thing, but it was fabulous in the winter. When we went, it didn't go all the way to the very top because of snow, but the experience was memorable regardless. I would highly recommend this.

The view was amazing, and the song "America the Beautiful" was written here and the lyrics are on a special memorial at the top. Truly a great memory, should be a "bucket list" destination for all!

What else can you say.. It inspired "America the Beautiful"written by Katherine Lee Bates after a wagon trip to the top in the very late 1800's. Their doughnuts are a must. Where else can you get doughnuts cooked at an elevation of 14,110 feet above sea level?

We always drive to the top of Pike's Peak. The views along the road and at the top is worth the time it takes to get there. Also, if you don't want to drive it yourself, there is a train that can take you to the top of the mountain. The hot coffee, fresh donuts, gift shop, trails and wildlife give you something to do and things to photograph.

I have visited Pikes Peak on more than one occasion hiked, biked abd driven since 1971. The first time I saw it tears fell from my eyes. I never imagined such fun and beauty. True American the Beautiful.

The mountain was amazing from bottom to top. Originally we were going to take the train up but later decided to drive. The drive up was great because there were good places to stop and great views. It's amazing to watch the wildlife change with the elevation. The best views were actually near the treeline not the very top. Once you do reach the top however there is something you should know. It's cold. I went in August and there was, (very little), snow in the ground. Also I got altitude sickness and had to go back down before I got to truly enjoy what the peak of the mountain had to offer.

We visited today with a teen and a 5 year old - both thoroughly enjoyed Pikes Peak. We chose to drive up the highway - absolutely gorgeous views. We stopped at the visitors center on mile marker 6 - fun gift shop, bathroom and great views. The road at the top of of the mountain was a little scary (not a huge fan of heights, but the kids loved it!!) but the views were incredible. We were not able to go past mile marker 16 due to snow, but it was still a really fun trip. We paid $28 for 4 to enter (2 adults/2 kids under 16) and It was well worth the money. A must see in Colorado Springs!

Pike's Peak is a beautiful mountain in Summer as well as Winter. The road to the top is paved all the way to the top, only the top of the mountain is gravel. Nice ride to the top during any season, although the Fall could be very nice with the leaves changing. The mountain could be close in the Winter due to snow on the road. At the top you have a snack bar, souvenir shop and a viewing area to look at the city and as far as nearby states. Remember that Pikes Peak is a little over 14,000 feet high and strenuous activities while on top of the mountain may take extra effort. Drink plenty of fluids and don't run or you may get out of breath and or dizzy.
