Great fall drive for leaf viewing. The best scenic views are located between Chama, NM and Antonito, CO. The roadway is worth your time if your are traveling between Alamosa, CO and northern New Mexico near Chama. Highly recommended fall season scenic roadway viewing.

Drove to the top of the pass from the Chama side. Approximately 14 mi drive from Chama. Scenery is worth the drive. Stop to see the historic rail area at the top. Walk around some and read the placards for the history of the area.

Driving up the pass with the fall foliage is spectacular. If you take the train, take the car drive too as you get a different perspective and get a chance to get out and take it all in!

We've travelled far and wide throughout the American west but have rarely been so surprised by the beauty of an area. This one is is definitely a byway and not a route that connects any well-known places. But the drive from Antonito to Chama over Cumbres Pass and though Conejos Canyon is pretty special. When you get to Chama, stop in for huevos rancheros at the Box Car Cafe. You will not be disappointed.

One of the best drives in Colorado. Besides being able to see one of the premiere steam trains the scenery is outstanding.
