On encampment weeks and weekends, you find a working fort complete with soldiers firing cannons and a Cherokee camp outside the fort, as it would have been in the 1700's. The women and children are also dressed as British off the 1700's. the ladies run a soap and candle making stall at one side of the wash house The living history enactment includes a parson, a Cherokee peace chief, a battalion of foot soldiers in authentic barracks and a blacksmith. Inside the Cherokee camp is a young native American who plays a beautiful wood flute in a haunting melody as his grandmother shares what life was life for the Cherokee. If Chief Atta Kula is there, you get even more history in first person dialogue of the area when the soldier came. The free museum and gift shop are would going through. The staff is friendly and willing to share about the relics and fort. The park itself has a beach, walking trails, a play ground nice restrooms, with flush toilets, and picnic grills and tables. The whole park is situated on a peninsula and can be reached by boat as well as car.

Be sure to visit during a re-enactment. If you do, historical characters come alive. This restored British fort was the first to surrender to an indigenous population. Besides the fort, the museum is well done. If you go during a re-enactment, you get to talk to people in character portraying actual figures in the fort. Be sure to ask the commander's housekeeper just exactly what was involved in keeping the commander's ...... Quarters tidy. Visit the hospital and find out why they had holes in the bed. You may get to speak with a trader or Cherokee villager. This is a great learning experience.

A beautifully reconstructed British fort from the time of the French and Indian war. It provides a detailed portrait of the conditions in which soldiers lived at that time and into the time of the American Revolution. It provides insight and a clearer understanding into what it was like on the frontier in the mid 18th century. The fort includes barracks, blacksmith shop, magazine, storage facilities, officers' quarters, a brig, and more, all the requirements for waging war on the frontier. It was absolutely fascinating.

If forts are your passion, or your family is looking for a great Re-enactment (certain times of the year), and you want to feel the cool waters of Tellico Lake, then visit Fort Loudoun State Park. A short movie gets you acquainted with the history of the English, Cherokee Indians, and the Tellico River in our nation's past.

My family and I visit here regularly. My children are home schooled and love going here to learn about the history. The surroundings are beautiful and the staff does a good job of allowing visitors to get a taste of what the time was like even when there is not a reenactment taking place.

We went on September 6, 2014 to the Great Island Festival. There were battle reenactors complete with a cannon and muskets being fired. Everyone was wearing authentic costumes and must have been hot in the 90 degree heat! There were also people doing living history as different tradespeople and citizens of the period. The museum has a very nice gift shop. We couldn't really enjoy it outside as much as we would have liked due to the heat so I look forward to returning in cooler weather.

Our visit to Fort Loudon State Park was just great, outstanding really. We were there during a reenactment of when the Fort was controlled by the British in 1756-60. All of the soldiers, outdoorsmen, women, all were dressed in that time period. A canon was shot off, drills were done, there was a bazaar for trading, and food from that period being prepared. The fort is done like it was 1756 and is a living history lesson.

We really enjoyed our stop at Fort Loudoun. The visitor center has a very good film and some displays and the walk out to the fort was very nice. The setting is beautiful, staff helpful and friendly. We enjoyed exploring the fort at our own pace and hope to go back again during one of the living history weekends.

Not knowing much about the French and Indian Wars, I visited with my son. The short film, the displays, the WONDERFUL STAFF, and the resources - especially the reconstructed fort - were excellent. Fascinating and engaging. Every staff member we talked with was professional and seemed proud to work there.

This gem is so nice to take family for a historic lesson, and the museum is very interesting. Kids really love it. The park is very nice both by boat and by car.

We visited the Park twice during our brief visit to the area! We felt an immediate connection with the historic link to SC and the facilities were top rate. The visitor center was interesting and the staff friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The fort was interesting with realistic detailing and hands-on displays. The picnic area was very nice - clean, well maintained and a beautiful setting beside Tellico Lake. Definitely a place we will return to.

I would recommend this to everyone! This place is amazing, easy to find ,and with the WORLDS BEST STAFF! You walk in ,and our welcomed by friendly staff! There are plenty of wonderful, educational exibits. There are not 1 movies, but 2 movies! When your finished (,and in awe) after the museum, you go into more awe once you visit the full-scale replica of the fort. I was amazed! Best Place Ever!

We live very close to the fort and it's always the first place we show off to visitors! Between the fort, the lake, the hiking trails, the picnic areas - there is always something to see and do. We are so fortunate to live so closeto. The re-enactment weekends are awesome.
