Personally I prefer the hiking!! We LOVE to geocache, and there are multiple caches hidden around the trails. We love taking our dogs and strolling around the white water center when we just want an easy, leisurely stroll. But when we want to actually hike, our two favorite trails are The Old Copper Road and the Rhodondon Trail - I may not have my names exactly right, but you'll easily discover them if you go. You can get some great photos on those trails!

This is a top-notch facility, obviously able to accommodate large crowds. The river is fascinating, and during the seasons when water flow is heavier, it would certainly be an exciting side excursion. We visited in early fall, just before the leaves turned and it was a nice quiet day of hiking - I did not see another person on the trails. Get a free trail map from the visitor's center and head on into the woods for a quiet few hours of hiking. The hiking trails are very well marked with signage and color-coded blazes. I didn't make it up to the top of the hill, but don't expect wide-open vista views - it is mostly dense woodlands with the only opening created by the running of high-voltage power lines. The trails are fairly narrow and can be a bit slippery when wet, but would be great for the experienced mountain bikers. The well-equipped visitor's center does rent bikes, and there is a great bike shop in Copper Basin that also rents. The camping facilities looked nice, not heavily used, but the sanitation facilities were not totally sanitary. Visiting the facility is free, but parking is $3.00, so make sure you do take a couple dollars.
