A great place to share with your friends. The music is amazing and the service for rent is good. You have to bring a good jacket and scarf.

It's a good ice rink but generally crowded and chaotic, for example it was hard to find enough space to change into and out of skates. The lines for skate rentals were long.

The Fred Rust Arena is a good place for ice skating lovers of all ages. The only downfall is that they don't smooth the ice often enough.

Want to see future Gold Medal Olympians at work? Just learning or want a family birthday event. This is the place. Large arena, rentals, fun atmosphere. Try it when you have an afternoon and want something different.

This is the home to the University of Delaware Mens and Womens hockey teams. It is a wonderful place to see old fashioned college hockey. Never too crowded but a fun evening of hockey.

This has something for everyone. If you skate, try the rentals and get out there no matter how long it has been. If you don't skate, go to watch during a practice session of figure skating.

Rust Arena is a world class training facility so the ice is great quality. I skated here competatively and didn't often attend public sessions so I cannot comment on skate rental and the like. I loved the facilty and my trainers though so if you are considering private lessons come here. Who knows, the person teaching your kids' "learn to skate" class might be on TV someday or even in the Olympics.

Every seat is perfect for seeing the action on the floor. Plenty of parking.

Grew up enjoying hockey practice, free skating and visiting with friends at the Fred Rust Ice Arena. Still a wonderful place to enjoy a few hours of skating. Recently took our grand daughter to learn to ice skate. This brought back wonderful memories of me and my Mom.Highly recommended for fun for all ages! Clean and well kept.

limited menu. This is just a small snack bar. Soup changes daily and is very good. A few sandwiches made fresh but others prepackaged as well as prepackaged salads. Good for a quick lunch if you're on south campus of the University of Delaware. Only a few tables and usually crowded at luncht time.

My husband and I like to recreational ice skate just for fun. We are not pro-skaters or trained athletes. We just like to go and have a good time. We decided to finally invest in a pair of personal skates instead of renting skates each time we go ice skating. We ended up purchasing them from the Crystal Sports shop inside the Fred Rust Ice Arena. We had never been here before, but went on a recommendation of friends. The staff there was super friendly and measured us for skates. They special ordered the brand and style of skate we wanted and when they came in (about a week later) they fit us with the skate to make sure they were a good fit, They even sharpened them at no additional charge. This was super service. We didn't have to pay shipping or sharpening fees! We were glad we had stopped in here instead of ordering skates from an onlilne company. I would highly recommend this shop inside the arena for your skating needs. While we were there, we picked up a skating schedule for the Public Ice Skating Sessions offered at the arena. We had never been skating there before, but thought we might give it a try. We ended up attending the Saturday night 8pm-10pm skate this past weekend. The parking lot was not full, but there was a decent amount of cars there. Once inside we had to stand in line to pay admission. Admission was $7 per person (FREE to University of DE students or $5 for kids under 6). Note: skate rental is $3 IF you need skates. The line did move rather slowly. It probably took us 15-20 minutes just to pay for admission. Once inside, the arena is VERY cold. We were glad we wore our winter coats, hats and gloves. There are lots of bench seating here, where you can place your shoes and bags under the benches while you skate. The actuall ice skating rink is huge. It is a hockey style rink--so there are no handrails around the edge of the rink. They did have skate guards that would skate with the public to help fallen people and etc. While you skate, they have an overhead sound system that plays popular music. The sound system was great. The played everything from popular country to pop and rock-n-roll. About 1 hour into the skating session, they did clear the ice and bring out the Zamboni machine to resurface the ice. About 15 minutes later we were admitted back out on the ice (skating in the opposite direction). Overall, we had a nice time skating here. The rink is huge and the overhead music was a bonus. The ice was smooth, but quickly got rough due to the large amount of people skating on the ice. It was crowded at times and hard to move around. You also had to watch for the speed skaters, who would zip around the rink weaving in & out of people. Being on the University of Delaware campus, it can be expected that most of the skaters are students (college-age crowd). We knew there would be students there since it is FREE for them, but we were kind of surprised not to see more middle-aged people OR families there too since it was a public skate session around the winter holidays. But, we still had a good time. I just wish they offered more public sessions. Most sessions are on the weekends (Friday night 8-10pm, Saturday 1-3pm & 8-10pm and Sunday 1-3pm). Around the week of Christmas they offer special holiday public skating sessions on the weekdays too. They advertise that they have "red ice" from December 23rd through Jan 1st also for the holidays.TIP: Check your money-mailer coupons or clipper magazine for coupons for the U of D Fred Rust ice arena. They usually offer a coupon for "one free pair of rental skates" around the holidays. Note: There is a small snack bar/vending machines on location too.
