First, a note: I am rating this strictly on a "child friendly and interesting" scale. We went here for my 5 year old son who loves looking at all the old planes and vehicles. I am, admittedly, not a history buff though reading some of the old pamphlets and war info was interesting. We stumbled upon the Tillamook Air Museum this past Fall and that place was AWESOME for kids. The hangar was huge and they had TONS of things for kids to climb on and sit in (like an old detached helicopter cockpit, a cargo plane, etc.) So Tillamook has set the bar and the whole reason I sought out another air museum type place around Boise was because of Tillamook. This Warhawk Museum wasn't really kid-friendly, there was absolutely nothing for kids to sit in/on. It was all pretty hands-off. Great for history buffs, though.

This museum is much, much more than historical planes. Take time to read the many interesting folders of information. By coincidence whilst talking with my accompanying friend, he told about a relative who was captured on Wake Island, then during our visit was able to read about the capture of Wake Island. The visit can very easily and comfortably take 2 plus hours.

This is a really cool place to visit if you enjoy WWII history and/or airplanes. They have a large collection of planes and if you visit on the right day, they take some out and fly them.

We visited this incredible museum while in Boise for my husband's business trip. Our kids are homeschooled, which allowed us to travel with him this time. We decided to surprise our two kids, especially our son, who is obsessed with all things aeronautic. IT WAS AMAZING! This was not your typical museum, with some big displays with a few plaques to read. Of course, it had real, true, life-size, planes from many eras, but it had SO MUCH MORE! From an actual, working telegraph that my children could use to "send" morse code messages, to a wedding dress worn by a WWII War Bride made from the silk of a Japanese military parachute...From a WWII electric-heated leather flight suit, to a life-sized replica of a shooting bunker in Vietnam that matched a photograph taken by a soldier there...My son was able to see the jets from a Star Fighter up close and stuck his head inside the cockpit of an F15! Journals and memoirs from hundreds of service men and women from WWI thru Desert Storm. Authentic Star of David arm bands worn by actual jews in the Concentration Camps of WWII. A real Nazi flag. German weapons, military gear, etc. that were confiscated during WWII. Heart-rending memorabilia made and sent by soldiers to their loved ones back home...I could go on and on. Our family spent almost 3 hours here, and could have stayed longer without getting bored if there had been no time constraints. It was an incredibly moving experience which had me in tears at many junctures. Do yourself a favor and come see this spectacular rendering of history!

I visited the Warhawk Air Museum recently with my parents and my aunt, and it was fascinating. The planes were incredibly cool to look at and read about, and the displays were so intriguing and interesting. We were looking at one display when one of the archivists told us to read the binder included on the display. He told us about the soldier in the photos, as well as the soldier's wife and child, and showed us some letters the woman had written to her sister. My mom asked him if he knew the family, and he told us that the woman was his mother-in-law. It was clear that he had a stake in the museum as a whole, not just this one display, and that was true of the other volunteers we spoke to as well. I'm no history buff by any means, but I could have walked around that museum for a few more hours!

The Warhawk Air Museum, in Nampa, ID., is just off I-84, west of Boise .. and it is definitely worth the visit. We suggest: 1. You should set aside at least 90 minutes to fully explore the museum, for it is much more than airplanes. 2. Visit all the airplanes (WW I vintage triplane; a wonderful WW II P-51 Mustang; two beautiful P-40s, both an N And E models; and an interesting array of helicopters and jets. 3. Take in all the displays, highlighting all of our conflicts and all branches of the service. There are vintage autos too. 4. Check the website for special events (monthly coffees, Veteran's Day specials, Pearl Harbor remembrance and others ... highlighted by their massive annual event in late August (this year, 2014, welcomed more P-51s, plus vintage P-38 and F4U Corsair). There is a nice gift shop for souvenirs for both young and old. Take some time and visit the Warhawk! Tues-Sat 10-5, Sunday 11-4.

The museum is awesome. It has some very unusual items. Wish my dad could have visited it. My husband, me and out of town guests really enjoyed it. Will go back again as there is so much to see.

Great to look at the P-40 P-51 and others lots of WWII and Vietnam memorabilia the its worth admission and the stop to take a break from I-84

We took the grandkids here. They had a great time, not only are there airplanes, but there is a lot of memorabilia from all the different wars. It took us a little more then a couple of hours to go through here. If you stop and read everything, you will be here for several more hours. The whole family really enjoyed this museum.

A must visit of you are a fan of the P-40 Warhawk or any other WWII fighter. Even though this is a small museum it is packed full of history. Take the time to read the letters and diaries from the men who fought the battles. Mr. Lou Bauman, the archivist for the museum will gladly spend as much time as you have giving you the personal stories with the artifacts.

I stopped by for an hour while in the area. The museum is not too big, but takes up two airplane hangars. There is a nice variety of small aircraft, as well as military uniforms. Other old military equipment items and model planes are on display as well. Admission is a little steep, but overall this museum is worth a visit, especially if you enjoy military history.

I read about this place in the Moon Handbook for Idaho so had to take a look. It was well-worth my visit. I spent about an hour here and could have easily been here longer. Besides the aircraft on display (including a P-40 Warhawk, P-51 Mustang, and on loan - a P-38 Lightning and an F4U Corsair) there was a rare WWII glider and many, many plastic models. As a modeler, I found this to be unique among the many air museums that I've visited. There was also lots and lots of information to read. Clearly, they have worked hard to put together many very interesting displays at this museum. It's easy to get to off of Interstate 84. A very fine museum!

Several WWII warbirds and a F-104 (how many of those have you seen). Numerous artifacts and displays of personal memorabilia of locals. Several cars of the era, Jeeps etc. (I'm a car museum guy so I like this a lot). Many dioramas of the period, cloths, books, and equipment.

This was a very interesting place for the history buff. Air memorabilia from WW1 onward. You could easily spend hrs if you are interested. We stopped with about an hour to look before they closed. I would have enjoyed a little more time. The vietnam displays were especially touching for me.
