This friendly family owned business rents many types of sports vehicles and the related safety equipment. Our plan was to rent 5 ATVs and drive 21 miles along rugged trails to the ghost town of Silver City. We received instruction in the operation of the vehicles and given the opportunity to learn to operate them safely in a parking lot at the entrance to the trails.I had surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand and also suffer from arthritis. As a result, I have poor strength in my right thumb and unequal and uneven strength in my hands. After an hour on my ATV, I realized that I did not have the strength in my right hand and thumb to make the trip that we planned. Sustained thumb strength is needed to operate the accelerator, and equal hand strength is needed to operate the front and back brakes in unison to control the steering. My husband and I returned to the parking lot, parked our ATVs and drove to Silver City to meet our friends who continued with the planned ATV trip. The owners of Intermountain Power Sports Rental picked up our two ATVs vehicles and because we hardly used them, gave a break on the gas for all vehicles. If you are planning to drive ATVs to Silver City, give lots of thought to your choice of trail. There are two routes: one which takes 3 to 4 hours one way and which is described as challenging. Begin early in the day and consider this trail only if you have confidence in your ability to drive ATVs on rugged terrain. The easier route takes about 2 hours but our friends, beginning ATV operators, found the first half of the trail rather difficult. In fact, once arrived at Silver City, they chose to drive their ATVs back only half of the way. They knew they had this option because the kind owners advised that pick up of the ATVs could take place either at the start point or at the midpoint of the trip to Silver City.Sunscreen and lots of water are essential. Sandwiches might be spoiled by the heat by the time you get to Silver City, so plan to have lunch at the restaurant there instead. Also consider staying overnight at the hotel. The ATVs have sufficient storage space for overnight stuff and I would have enjoyed more time to explore this old mining town.
