I just finished a great day at Highland. I have been dying to get there for the last few years, as our family visits lake winnipesauki every year. I signed up for the 'Find Your Ride' program. They set you up with a specialized status I bike, all the gear your want, and an hour plus of on trail coaching. This program is designed for the first time / new gravity rider and we had everything from 'road riders' to somewhat experienced down hillers (me). The instructors took us through some fundamentals like body position, brake modulation, and bike control on flat land. We then loaded the lift access trails and did some 'on the mountain' work. We stayed on the green trails, which was great because i really wanted to scope this place out for my kids who are 7 & 8. After we completed the on trail portions, they set us loose to enjoy the day. since I was there solo, i buddied up with somebody who was at my skill level and hit the park.OK - this is the meat of the review. This place rocks. i just got done last week with a session at Trestle (Winter Park CO) and highland blew me away. So many features. Table tops. Super berms. Drop offs. ladder Features. It was amazing. Cat's Paw and Hellion where my favorites, but I cannot get over how great the trails were. So many lines. For those of you who don't feel like getting themselves killed, these trails have A & B lines, so you can work on your progression riding the 'B' lines and once you are comfortable and familiar, start hitting the A stuff. Bottom line, for a Colorado guy who rides the occasional DH park but spends much more time earning his descents, I love this place. I will be back. I will bring my wife and kids next year. Almost forgot, there is a great XC trail system right next to HMBP that is connected to their system. Its free...
