Maple wood state park is a must see and is part of this trail. Beautiful hills, forests, lake and interesting sights such as the Phelps Mill. We met a 92 year old couple from Fargo that come to the mill for their anniversary for the last 60plus years. It is worth spending the better part of a day driving this entire trail and stopping to see the sights. Great small towns along the way

We stayed over in Fergus Falls, MN on our way to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We wanted to see a bit of MN so traveled the Otter Tail Trail. It was such a fun day as we encountered many delightful sights: Pete the Pelican in Pelican Falls; Maplewood State Park, that was formed by a glacier; Inspiration Peak, so named by Sinclair Lewis; Vining, with a sculpture park full of whimsical works by Ken Neyberg and so many more Americana sites along the way. If you have the time I highly recommend it. You'll also encounter lots of "Minnesota Nice" people.

It is a peaceful drive with interesting little cafes and restaurants along the route to try and small shops in some of the towns only open during tourist/lake season.
