Saturdays are great for visiting the Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery. Volunteers work every Sat from 9 am til 1 pm, and tours of the grounds, including the underground bunker from the War of 1812, are offered to visitors. Or you can join in and volunteer for an hour - help with planting or raking. This Spring & Summer, they will be featuring a herd of Goats for visitors to see and pet and feed. THe goats are part of a special study - a natural eco-friendly solution to invasive weeds. The nature and wildlife alone are incredible in this 6 acre oasis in the heart of urban downtown Jersey City. Just a 6 block walk from the Grove Street PATH or the Journal Square PATH stations, this is a very special place being operated and restored by an All-Volunteer mission. It is the Crossroads of the Revolution, rich with our nations earliest history, plus the very first Cemetery in the State of NJ. They also offer a calendar of Cultural events including live Shakespeare and other theatrical performances, Concerts, military and musical tributes on Memorial and Veterans Days, and more...
